The Dodgers needed to create a spot on the 40-man roster with their six-player trade with Atlanta getting approved, and Santos was the casualty. While Santos did fan 15 in his 13.1 innings with Los Angeles this season, he also walked seven and served almost exclusively in mop-up duty.

Santos was recalled by the Dodgers and is with the team for Friday's game in San Diego, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.

Santos has always been a big strikeout guy, and his numbers to start the year at Triple-A were impressive, striking out eight and giving up two earned runs in 4.2 innings. There is a chance that he could find his way into the mix for a save opportunity with Kenley Jansen (foot) out until mid May.

Santos was reassigned to the Dodgers' minor league camp.

None of the non-roster players invited to the Dodgers' camp made the Opening Day roster.

Santos is not expected to make the Dodgers' 25-man roster, the L.A. Times reports.

He can opt out of his contract by May 1 if he's not on the major league roster, so he'll spend the first month of the season at Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Santos had an interesting outing Wednesday, striking out the first batters, allowing two hits and a run, and then striking out his fourth hitter of the inning to finish the frame.

Santos has now allowed one run in five innings with an 8:0 K:BB so far this spring. He's looking like a real threat to win a bullpen spot this spring, and given his history, Santos could find his way into the ninth inning while Kenley Jansen (foot) is out.

Santos retired the White Sox in order in his 2015 Cactus League debut on Wednesday.

The affiliate concludes its season Monday, so the next step in Santos' own campaign is unknown. In any case, he doesn't seem to factor into the Blue Jays' playoff push, after posting an 8.57 ERA, 2.19 WHIP, and 29:18 K:BB in 21 innings with the big club this year.
