Wed Jan 25 201222:05Richardson suspended 50 games for PEDs
Dustin Richardson has been suspended 50 games for testing positive for five different PEDs.
A former fifth-round draft pick, Richardson was released by the Braves earlier this winter after struggling to rein in his control issues last season at the Triple-A level. The 28-year-old could struggle to find a new opportunity.

Not a bad gamble by Atlanta. Richardson has suffered from control issues but is just 26 and has struck out over 10.0 per nine innings in his minor league career. He'll report to Triple-A Gwinnett.

The Marlins made the move in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for DeWayne Wise. Acquired over the offseason in exchange for Andrew Miller, Richardson has posted a 3.66 ERA and 9.8 K/9 rate at Triple-A New Orleans, but he also holds a 5.6 BB/9 rate, and control issues are nothing new for him.

Sat Nov 13 201009:57Richardson has options, Miller does not
Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest indicated that a major reason why he traded Andrew Miller for Dustin Richardson was because Richardson has options left and Miller doesn't.
``The stuff is really good with Richardson,'' Beinfest said. ``He has good minor-league numbers and the stuff is good. He has good size and we have control, obviously, with his service time and with options, so we thought it made sense. We think there's upside with this kid.'' Richardson, like Miller, has control problems, but he has the potential to work at the back end of a bullpen if he can rein in the free passes.

Fri Nov 12 201018:09Marlins acquire Richardson from Red Sox
Marlins acquired LHP Dustin Richardson from the Red Sox in exchange for LHP Andrew Miller.
We can't really blame the Marlins for deciding to give up on Miller, but they've acquired another southpaw with control problems. Richardson boasts a 3.31 ERA over 16 1/3 innings for the Red Sox over the last two seasons, but he has walked nearly a batter per inning and has a WHIP over 2.00. He's consistently posted high strikeout rates in the minors but will need to cut down on the free passes if he hopes to nail down a late-inning role in Florida.

Red Sox optioned LHP Dustin Richardson to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Richardson was cleared in order to make space for Wednesday's starter Clay Buchholz. The 26-year-old southpaw posted a 2.57 ERA in 13 appearances since his promotion from the PawSox in June. He'll be back.

Red Sox recalled LHP Dustin Richardson from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Richardson will take on a role in mop-up duty for the Sox, who just lost Daisuke Matsuzaka (forearm) to the disabled list. Richardson, 26, threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings last season as a September call-up.
