Powers accrued a team-high 12 tackles (10 solo) and one sack during Sunday's victory in Detroit.
Powers entered the game with just 15 tackles to his name, but the quarterback combination of Matthew Stafford and Dan Orlovsky attempted a whopping 70 passes, skewing the statistics for the benefit of those in the Cardinals' secondary. While Powers may be involved in additional blowouts as the season unfolds, no opponent will likely employ such a blatant one-sided attack, as the Lions rank 32nd in rushing by a large margin. Nonetheless, he's played all but five defensive snaps this season, so he's apt to be a frequent contributor to the box score in such a playmaking defense.

Powers accrued seven tackles (six solo) in Sunday's win versus the Saints.
Relegated to slot corner last season with Antonio Cromartie in town, Powers returned to the IDP-healthy role opposite Patrick Peterson to begin the current campaign and fell one tackle shy of Tyrann Mathieu's team-high eight stops. Helping Powers' cause is a preponderance of work, as evidenced by receiving 73 of the Cardinals' 74 defensive snaps Sunday, according to Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910 Phoenix. Even though his tackle count will almost certainly diminish from the heights of Week 1, Powers has tallied at least one interception in each of his six years as a professional, including four in two complete seasons in the Arizona desert.

Powers (hamstring) racked up three solo tackles and two passes defended in his sole appearance of the preseason.
After missing the first two exhibitions due to an oblique concern, Powers dealt with a hamstring injury in advance of the third preseason game on Aug. 30, yet he gutted out the issues to the tune of the aforementioned line. Working opposite Patrick Peterson this season, Powers should be showered with plenty of passes to defend, which could result in a career season. Acting as the Cardinals' slot corner the past two years, Powers tallied 118 tackles (108 solo), 28 passes defended, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one sack in 32 games.

Powers (oblique) will be held out of practice a few more days due to a hamstring issue, Darreb Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Powers missed the first preseason game due to an oblique injury, but just two days removed from missing the Cardinals' second contest, he has picked up a new ailment. Penciled into the starting cornerback role opposite Patrick Peterson when healthy, Powers will likely be afforded as much rest as he can handle to achieve such an end.

Powers didn't take the field in Saturday's preseason game against the Chiefs, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports. Explaining his reasoning, head coach Bruce Arians said, "There was no sense for him to go out there and play and stretch that [oblique] again."
Powers contended with an oblique strain in the days preceding the exhibition opener, so Arians' decision wasn't a shock. Once the ailment is behind him, Powers will serve as a starting cornerback opposite Patrick Peterson, which should result in significant passes defended in 2015.

Powers (oblique) returned to practice Wednesday, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Removed from drills Monday due to an oblique strain, Powers made a quick turnaround with Wednesday's return, though his activity level is unknown. When healthy, he'll serve as the starting cornerback opposite perennial Pro Bowler Patrick Peterson.

Powers won't participate in Monday's practice due to an oblique strain, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.
Following the offseason departure of Antonio Cromartie to the Jets, Powers has been penciled into the starting cornerback spot opposite Patrick Peterson. However, Powers left Saturday's practice as a result of the ailment, which is of unknown severity. Until he achieves full health, Justin Bethel should handle the available CB reps.

Powers has been working with the first-team defense in OTAs opposite cornerback Patrick Peterson, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Powers worked as the slot corner for the entirety of the 2014 season due to the presence of Antonio Cromartie in the secondary. However, Cromartie bolted to the Jets in free agency this offseason, leaving the No. 2 CB gig up in the air. While Powers may be better suited to operate in the slot due to his 5-foot-10, 187-pound frame, he'll aim to fend off Justin Bethel for the opening as training camp and the regular season approach. In two season in the Arizona desert, Powers has so far accumulated 118 tackles (108 solo), 28 passes defended, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one sack in 32 games.

Powers totaled 53 tackles (48 solo), 10 passes defended, three interceptions, two tackles for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble during the 2014 season.
During his first four years in the league, Powers never played more than 12 games in a given season. However, he hasn't been one of the game day inactives since joining the Cardinals in 2013, averaging 54 tackles, two picks, and one forced fumble per campaign. His tackle output this year was hindered by the presence of Antonio Cromartie, who was picked up in the offseason, but defensive coordinator Todd Bowles used six or seven defensive backs frequently, thereby allowing Powers to take the field for 70.3 percent of the defensive snaps, according to Football Outsiders. Cromartie is an impending unrestricted free agent, though, meaning Powers could regain a starting role next season.
Tue Oct 14 201412:33Powers notched four tackles (three solo)
Powers notched four tackles (three solo), one tackle for loss, and one interception during Sunday's victory versus Washington. Overall, he took the field for 49-of-60 defensive snaps, FOX Sports 910 Phoenix reports.
Powers now leads the Cardinals in both picks (three) and passes defended (four), which is impressive considering the pedigree of the talent in the defensive backfield. While he isn't receiving a full workload, the battered state of the linebacking corps has forced the hand of defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, who is utilizing six defensive backs more often than not in recent weeks. Taking advantage of the confluence of events, Powers is knotted up with six other defenders for the league lead in interceptions.

Powers posted a fine line in Sunday's defeat in Denver, with a team-high seven solo tackles an one interception.
On the Broncos' second play of the second quarter, Powers picked off Peyton Manning, which supplemented nicely the cornerback's season-best tackle total. Powers also took over for Patrick Peterson upon his removal due to an injured ankle in the second half. As a result, he was on the field for 68-of-81 defensive snaps, FOX Sports 910 Phoenix reports. Peterson is expected to be OK, though, relegating Powers to passing downs once again.

Powers totaled five tackles (four solo) during Sunday's victory against the Giants in New York.
Powers earned the fifth most snaps (58-of-72) among Cardinals defensive backs this past weekend, according to FOX Sports 910 Phoenix. While he recorded his eighth career interception in Week 1, his status as a reserve cornerback keeps his IDP relevance in check.
Thu Feb 13 201422:15Jerraud Powers potential cap casualty?
ESPN Cardinals blogger Josh Weinfuss believes there's a "good chance" CB Jerraud Powers is a salary-cap casualty.
Powers is due $3 million, and would count $4.75 million against the cap. Powers started all 16 games last season, but was highly uneven opposite Patrick Peterson. He had a knack for breaking up passes, but also making mistakes. The Cardinals could possibly do better for cheaper opposite shut-down corner Peterson.

Tue Jun 18 201316:22Cards' site projects CB Powers as starter
AzCardinals.com expects Jerraud Powers to start over Antoine Cason opposite Patrick Peterson.
Reporter Darren Urban "wouldn't be shocked" if Cason beat out Powers in camp, however. Urban believes Powers' experience playing for Cardinals coach Bruce Arians last season gives him a leg up. Cason has been a starter each of the past three years, but played poorly in 2012. He's also making less than Powers. In other words, Powers is the better bet to start.

Tue May 14 201316:35Powers starting over Antoine Cason
Jerraud Powers has been running as the No. 2 cornerback over Antoine Cason in Cardinals OTAs.
Cason has been a starter each of the past three seasons, but it's not a surprise after Powers brought home a three-year, $10.5 million deal compared to Cason's one-year, $2 million pact. Cason could fall back to dime duties with Javier Arenas highly experienced in the slot. A rangy press corner, Cason is best suited to the outside. The Cardinals are deep at cornerback one year after being thin.

Wed Mar 13 201317:43Cardinals sign former Colt CB Jerraud Powers
Cardinals agreed to terms with CB Jerraud Powers, formerly of the Colts, to a three-year contract.
New head coach Bruce Arians has his fingerprints all over this one. He got a first-hand look at Powers in practice every day last season while both were in Indianapolis. Now Powers will step in as a starter opposite Patrick Peterson in the Cardinals' thin secondary.

Tue Mar 12 201316:28Jerraud Powers to visit Cardinals, Chargers
Free agent CB Jerraud Powers will visit the Cardinals then Chargers.
Both teams are extremely desperate for cornerback help. Arizona has just two under contract for 2013, and both of San Diego's starters from 2012 are free agents. Powers has a staff connection with both organizations.

Tue Mar 12 201311:11Jerraud Powers wants No. 1 CB money
According to the Indy Star, the Colts view free agent Jerraud Powers as a No. 2 corner.
Powers wants to be paid like a No. 1 corner, so he's likely going to hit the open market later this afternoon. He's been steadily linked to San Diego, where Tom Telesco is now the general manager. Telesco was part of the Colts' front office when they drafted Powers.

Mon Mar 11 201314:50Jerraud Powers drawing interest from 2 teams
The Indianapolis Star reports the Colts remain in talks with free agent CB Jerraud Powers, but that he's drawing interest from "at least two other teams."
It would behoove Powers to sign quickly if he's planning to leave the Colts, as the money for cornerbacks will dry up quickly in a loaded market. It's doubtful an outside team will place a higher price on Powers than the Colts.

Sat Mar 9 201316:11Chargers expected to pursue Jerraud Powers
The Chargers are expected to have "deep talks" with free agent CB Jerraud Powers.
New Bolts GM Tom Telesco was in Indianapolis' front office when Powers was drafted. Like the Colts, the Chargers are needy at cornerback but have quite a bit less cap space to spend. Powers should be cheaper than Antoine Cason.
