3B Brett Wallace blasted his fifth home run of the season Wednesday and it came at a good time. With San Diego recently recalling OF Alex Dickerson from Triple-A El Paso, it's clear that the left-hand hitting Dickerson could steal some at-bats from Wallace. Padres manager Andy Green said Dickerson is going to play on a regular basis, which could mean Wallace returns to his role as a late-inning, pinch-hitter with power.

INF Brett Wallace moved to first base with Wil Myers unavailable Sunday and snapped out of an 0-for-13 funk with a two-hit performance that included his third home run of the season. Including the hitless streak, Wallace had gone 2-for-26 over his last nine games, dropping his average from .257 to .180 entering play Sunday.

3B Brett Wallace went just 1-for-3 in Wednesday's opening game, but his one hit was the key for the Padres. Wallace clubbed a three-run, two-out home run in the seventh inning to give San Diego the lead. He recorded three RBIs in a game for the first time since Aug. 17, 2013, at the Angels while with Houston. He struck out as a pinch hitter in the nightcap Wednesday.

PH Brett Wallace recorded his first hit in nine at-bats this season Wednesday in Philadelphia, a two-out RBI single off Phillies closer Jeanmar Gomez in the ninth. Wallace was the third of four straight pinch hitters manager Andy Green sent to the plate in the inning, in the hope of erasing a 2-0 deficit. "Just trying to get him up there with a chance to tie the baseball game," Green said of Wallace. "(Alexi) Amarista had probably our best at-bats today, so it's difficult to pinch hit for him in that situation, but you're taking your one chance to tie the baseball game up."

1B Brett Wallace emerged as the Padres top left-handed pinch-hitter late last season and hit .302 with five homers and 16 RBIs in 96 at-bats. New manager Andy Green believes Wallace can help the Padres as a pinch-hitter and as a reserve at first. That would allow Myers to play left on occasion to get an extra left-handed bat into the lineup.

Wallace went 2-for-3 with a solo homer in the Padres' win over the Marlins on Friday night.
The former top prospect could be in line for an uptick in playing time following the demotion of Will Middlebrooks to Triple-A earlier this week. Once hailed as a top-50 overall prospect, Wallace has amassed a .302/.370/.479 line in 2,403 career plate appearances at Triple-A spanning seven seasons. Prior to his chance in San Diego this season, Wallace's body of work in the big leagues came from 2010-2013 in Houston, where he hit .242/.313/.391 with 29 homers and 102 RBI over 311 games.

Wallace had his contract selected from Triple-A El Paso on Friday
Wallace was a non-roster invitee for the Padres in spring training, but has spent the season at Triple-A El Paso. In 61 games at El Paso this season, Wallace is batting .305 with eight home runs, 13 doubles, and 37 RBI. Wallace can add some pop to the Padres' infield. In a corresponding move, the Padres optioned Cory Mazzoni to Triple-A.
Sat Mar 28 201513:57Wallace reassigned to minor league camp Saturday
Wallace was reassigned to minor league camp Saturday, the Union-Tribune's Dennis Lin reports.
This doesn't come as a surprise as Wallace, 28, was a non-roster invitee to spring training. Look for the former marginal prospect to spend most, if not all of 2015 playing first base at Triple-A.

Wallace, a non-roster invitee to Padres' camp, could earn a spot on the bench with the major league club, Jeff Sanders of the Union-Tribune.
Wallace spent the 2014 season in the Astros and Blue Jays farm systems. At 28, he's contending for a reserve role for San Diego. Manager Bud Black was quoted as saying, "I think there's a natural hitter to this guy that might lend himself to the National League as a bench player...there's a lot to like about him." It's a tall order for Wallace to make the major league club, but if he does, he'll add some left handed power off the bench.
Tue Dec 23 201413:30Wallace has signed minor league deal with Padres
Wallace has signed a minor league deal with the Padres, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
After spending parts of four seasons with the Astros major league team, Wallace spend all of 2014 in the minors with Houston and Toronto. He could offer San Diego a little power in their lineup at times this season, as he hit 13 homers and drove in 36 runs in 285 plate appearances for Houston in 2013.
Mon Jul 14 201416:36Blue Jays acquire Brett Wallace from Orioles
Blue Jays acquired 1B Brett Wallace from the Orioles for cash considerations; assigned him to Triple-A Buffalo.
David Hall of the Virginian Pilot reported the news of the trade while Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports added the note about cash considerations. Wallace hasn't had much success at the major league level, but he was hitting .265/.329/.389 with 10 home runs in 374 plate appearances with the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate this season. This is his second stint with Toronto, as he was previously acquired from the A's for Michael Taylor before eventually being shipped to the Astros in the Anthony Gose deal. Given the injuries the Blue Jays are dealing with right now, he could see some time in the majors in the coming weeks.

Sun Mar 23 201410:44Orioles sign 1B Wallace to minor league deal
Orioles signed 1B Brett Wallace to a minor league contract.
Houston decided it didn't want to keep around Wallace even if he wasn't hogging a 40-man roster spot and released him earlier this month. This is a pure minor league depth move by the Orioles. There's simply nothing left to salvage here. Wallace, a former top prospect, is a .242/.313/.391 career hitter over 1,077 major league plate appearances.

Wed Mar 12 201408:53Bust-ed: Astros move on from 1B Wallace
Astros released 1B Brett Wallace.
Things have gotten pretty bleak for Wallace, a player who was already designated for assignment and passed through waivers in February. Even as a non-roster player, Houston decided to pass on the former All-World prospect who is a .242/.313/.391 career hitter over 1,077 major league plate appearances. "He's been a big part of this organization for past few years, but we didn't see a role for him at the big league level," Astros GM Jeff Luhnow said. The former first-round pick will offer Triple-A depth to a new organization and not much more.

Thu Feb 6 201416:42Astros designate Brett Wallace for assignment
Astros designated INF Brett Wallace for assignment.
The move clears a spot for the newly-signed Jerome Williams on the 40-man roster. Once a top prospect, Wallace owns a meager .242/.313/.391 batting line over 311 games in the majors. It wouldn't be surprising if someone takes a chance on him, but he remains a disappointment.

Tue Jan 7 201422:33Astros' 1B will be open competition
Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Tuesday that the club's first base job will be a "good healthy competition" in spring training.
Chris Carter is pegged for the DH spot, so the Astros will have a host of competitors vying for the first base gig. "Nobody's clearly separating himself in my mind, so it's going to be a good healthy competition," Luhnow said. The GM listed Marc Krauss, Jesus Guzman, Japhet Amador, Jonathan Singleton and Brett Wallace as the competitors for the gig. Singleton certainly holds the most appeal from a fantasy perspective but is likely to begin the year in the minors.

Brett Wallace roped a two-run double in the seventh inning on Friday, accounting for all of the Astros offense in a loss to the Yankees.
Wallace entered the game as a pinch-hitter for Brandon Barnes in the seventh inning, and delivered the clutch hit to pull the Astros to within a run at 3-2. It's been a season of mixed results for the 27-year-old, hitting .222/.285/.433 with 13 homers, 36 RBI and an atrocious 103/18 K/BB ratio.
