Pastornicky is a depth signing for the Rangers and carries no real value at this point. He's triple-slashed .200/.304/.250 in his three-year career with two home runs and two stolen bases. There's a chance he sees major league time due to injuries.

Pastornicky, who appeared in 28 games for Atlanta last season, was in minor league camp with Triple-A Gwinnett. The organization apparently decided to part ways with the infielder after he hit only .200 in 47 plate appearances. He did experience considerably more success at the Triple-A level, however, slashing .290/.330/.347 with 17 RBI in 189 plate appearances in 2014.

Pastornicky missed a second straight start Monday due to soreness in his left calf, but he took batting practice, fielded groundballs and did some running before the game. "I think I could have played today but just giving it another day and letting it get some more treatment and letting the soreness get down even a little more," Pastornicky said.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez indicated Tuesday that Tyler Pastornicky will see the majority of starts at second base over the next few days.
Pastornicky and Ramiro Pena have been sharing the job of late, but Gonzalez wants Pena available off the bench for now. Dan Uggla hasn't started a game in a week. Pastornicky is hitting just .118/.211/.235 this season and .241/.286/.319 over 110 career games, but the Braves are running short on options at the keystone.

Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports that Tyler Pastornicky's (knee) rehab is going smoothly and that he currently feels "way ahead of schedule".
The 24-year-old infielder underwent season ending sugery in August to repair a torn ACL in his left knee sustained from a collision with Jason Heyward. He's set to be re-evaluated in a few days and could be cleared to take ground balls by the end of next week.
