Tue Mar 2618:59Jon Gray Dealing With Stiff Neck
Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (neck) was scheduled to pitch on Tuesday but was scratched due to a stiff neck. He will instead throw a bullpen session on Wednesday, and it shouldn't impact his first scheduled start of the regular season, although that date has yet to be announced. Gray was able to throw eight scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and two walks in two Cactus League contests this spring, but fantasy managers have wonder if his neck injury will have an effect on how he pitches early on in the 2024 regular season. The 32-year-old veteran got off to an excellent start last year before crumbling down the stretch to eventually finish 9-8 with a 4.12 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 54 walks and 142 strikeouts in 29 regular-season starts in his second season in Texas. It's hard to expect that much from an injury-prone pitcher in Texas who has gone over 170 innings just once in his nine seasons.

Mon Oct 30 202316:09Jon Gray To Start Game 4 Of World Series
Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray will make the start in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday in Arizona against the Diamondbacks. Gray hasn't started a game for the Rangers since Sept. 25 and has allowed five earned runs on 10 hits (one home run) while walking one and striking out seven in four relief innings over three appearances this postseason, so he's surely going to have a short leash and extremely limited DFS upside. The D-backs are going with a bullpen game on Tuesday, so both teams could get into their bullpens early. During the 2023 regular season, Gray went 9-8 with a 4.12 ERA (4.47 FIP), 1.29 WHIP, 54 walks and 142 strikeouts in 157 1/3 innings over his 29 starts. In two starts against Arizona, he gave up nine earned runs in 9 1/3 frames with four walks and seven K's.

Sun Oct 15 202314:34Jon Gray On The ALCS Roster
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jon Gray (forearm) has been added to the team's ALCS roster. Gray was placed on the 15-day injured list back on September 29 with forearm irritation but the goal but he's on track to pitch in the Championship Series, which starts on Sunday in Houston. Jordan Montgomery is set to start Game 1 for Texas while Nathan Eovaldi will take the mound for Game 2. Max Scherzer (shoulder) was also added to the ALCS roster and he would be the presumptive starter for Game 3, so in all likelihood, Gray will work out of the bullpen in this series. Both him and Scherzer will likely be on pitch counts as well.

Tue Oct 10 202312:18Jon Gray On Track To Return In ALCS
Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (forearm) is on track to return to the starting rotation if the team advances past the Baltimore Orioles and to the American League Championship Series. Gray was placed on the injured list during the final weekend of the regular season with right-forearm tightness. If both Gray and Max Scherzer (shoulder) return for the ALCS, Andrew Heaney and Dane Dunning could then serve in bulk-relief roles, along with Martin Perez, giving the Rangers more depth and versatility in their bullpen. The 31-year-old Gray went 9-8 with a 4.12 ERA (4.47 FIP), 1.29 WHIP, 54 walks and 142 strikeouts in 157 1/3 innings over 29 starts in his second year in Texas in 2023. If he returns in the ALCS if Texas advances, he will be making just his second-ever postseason appearance.

Sat Sep 30 202300:20Rangers Lose Jon Gray To Forearm Tightness
The Texas Rangers put starting pitcherJon Gray(forearm) on the 15-day injured list due to right lower-forearm tightness on Friday. The veteran right-hander is the latest name to hit the shelf in an injury-plagued Rangers rotation throughout the course of this year. Gray could return at some stage of the postseason, but he's set to miss at least a few weeks after leaving his Sept. 25 start with the forearm injury. The 31-year-old got off to a fabulous start (2.32 ERA through first 12 starts) before faltering for a 5.70 ERA across his most recent 17 starts to end the year. Overall, Gray punched out 142 and walked 54 in 157 1/3 innings before his regular season finished.

The 31-year-old has been key for Texas' starting rotation this year, going 9-8 with a 4.12 ERA (4.47 FIP), 1.29 WHIP, 54 walks and 142 strikeouts in 157 1/3 innings of work over his 29 starts in his second year with the team.

Mon Sep 25 202318:51Jon Gray Getting The Ball For Crucial Start Monday
Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray will get the starting nod Monday in what is another crucial game for the club on the road against the Angels. Gray's Rangers currently sit 2.5 games ahead of the slumping Houston Astros for first place in the American League West but are also just three games ahead of the Seattle Mariners. Gray will look to keep his club in the driver's seat when he makes his 29th start of the season while he has worked to a 4.22 ERA and a 4.55 SIERA across his first 28 outings of the campaign. However, the right-hander has struggled of late, allowing 10 runs on 15 hits and five walks across his last three starts spanning just 8 2/3 innings of work. He has a nice matchup to get back on track against an Angels offense that sits 24th with a .296 wOBA over the last 30 days.

Before leaving Wednesday, Gray tossed 4 1/3 shutout frames while allowing eight hits, walking one and striking out four. He's been useful in the majority of fantasy formats this year, but he could see some regression in the second half.

Wed Jul 19 202316:19Jon Gray Leaves Early Wednesday After Being Hit By Comebacker
Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (leg) was lifted from his outing early on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays after taking a comebacker off his left leg in the top of the fifth inning. The good news is that Gray was able to walk off the field under his own power, and we'll find out shortly how serious the injury actually is. Before departing, the 31-year-old gave up eight hits and no runs while walking one and striking out four in 4 1/3 innings. It remains to be seen if he'll be able to make his next start in the rotation. Gray has been solid for the Rangers and fantasy managers this year. He came into Wednesday's outing with a 6-5 record, 3.45 ERA (4.59 FIP), 1.15 WHIP, 33 walks and 79 strikeouts in 99 innings over his 17 starts.

Fri Jul 14 202309:53Jon Gray The First Man Up After All-Star Break
Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray will open the team's second half against the Cleveland Guardians on Friday, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. Andrew Heaney and Martin Perez will follow, getting the ball on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Gray was a decent fantasy arm during the first half, pitching to a 3.29 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with six wins across 16 starts, but struck out just 75 batters over 93 innings. Fantasy managers should keep the 31-year-old veteran on their roster for his run prevention and high win potential, but he isn't a must-start going forward.

Thu Jun 15 202316:09Rangers Planning To Start Jon Gray On Sunday
The Texas Rangers are planning on having right-hander Jon Gray (finger) make his next start this Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Gray was scratched from his last scheduled start on Tuesday due to a blister on his pitching hand, but manager Bruce Bochy said that Gray is doing well. Fantasy managers will be glad that the 31-year-old will be able to avoid a trip to the injured list. It's not the first time Gray has dealt with the blister this year, and the last time it was an issue, he tossed a complete game in his next start, which means he should be started with confidence this weekend. Gray has been great for Texas and fantasy managers alike this year, posting a 2.32 ERA (4.17 FIP), 0.96 WHIP, 20 walks and 63 strikeouts in 73 2/3 innings over 12 starts in his second year with the team.

Thu Jun 15 202312:12No Timeline For Jon Gray's Next Start
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said starting pitcher Jon Gray (finger) is "doing well" after having his start on Tuesday scratched due to a blister issue, but the team hasn't decided on when he'll return to the mound. "We haven't penciled in what day he's gonna pitch yet, but it's gonna be within four or five days," Bochy said. Gray left his start on June 2 in the seventh inning with what he described as a "hot" finger, but said it didn't develop into a blister until later that night. He tossed a complete game five days later. The 31-year-old righty has been great this year, going 6-1 with a 2.32 ERA in 73 2/3 innings in 12 starts, and he has a 0.84 ERA since May 8, so fantasy managers will want him back in their starting lineups whenever he returns to the mound.

Mon Jun 12 202320:24Jon Gray Scratched From Tuesday's Start With Blister
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that starting pitcher Jon Gray (finger) will be scratched from his scheduled start on Tuesday against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels due to a blister. The move is mostly precautionary to prevent a bigger injury, and he's not expected to need a stint on the injured list. It's unknown who will start in Gray's place, but Cody Bradford is with the team in Arlington. It's a bummer for fantasy managers expecting to use Gray in their lineups this week, but hopefully he'll only end up missing the one start. The 31-year-old right-hander fanned 12 batters in a complete-game win his last time out against the St. Louis Cardinals. He's been great this year for Texas, going 6-2 with a career-best 2.32 ERA (4.17 FIP), 0.96 WHIP, 20 walks and 63 strikeouts in 73 2/3 frames over his 12 starts.

Gray struck out 12 St. Louis batters while allowing no walks in over nine innings thrown. He only allowed four hits during the contest. Sat May 27 202309:55Jon Gray Continues Superb String Of Success
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jon Gray threw seven innings of one-run ball in a 12-2 blowout win over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. He struck out eight batters and seized his fifth win of the year. The 31-year-old is carrying quite a bit of momentum right now, having let in a single run or fewer in his last four starts with all being victories. Gray's 2.81 ERA is on pace to signify a career-high figure. His 7.2 K/9 might be below his career average, but fantasy managers will accept the strong play from the hard-throwing righty however it comes. Gray has a great chance to keep the good times rolling on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers.

Mon May 8 202318:39Jon Gray Toeing The Rubber Monday Versus Mariners
Texas Rangers pitcher Jon Gray gets the ball Monday night when the Texas Rangers take on the rival Seattle Mariners on the road. It's been a decent start to the season for Gray who owns a 4.40 ERA across six starts. However, Gray also owns a 6.22 FIP, 5.63 SIERA, and a tiny 3.8% K-BB% that all spell regression for the veteran moving forward. That regression has already kicked in as Gray surrendered four earned runs on eight hits -- including two home runs -- with just two strikeouts in a no-decision against the D-backs his last time out. He'll take on a Mariners offense that is in a tie for 20th with an underwhelming .304 wOBA on the campaign.

Gray is having a solid season so far, posting a 3.21 ERA, 23.2% strikeout rate, and 1.21 WHIP with one victory over three starts. He's enjoyed pitching in Texas after spending seven seasons with the Colorado Rockies and should be rostered in every format.

Sat Apr 15 202321:32Jon Gray Exits Saturday's Game After Being Hit With Comebacker

He was diagnosed with a forearm bruise, and the team will continue to monitor the situation. The 31-year-old allowed one run while striking out two across two innings before leaving. Gray appears to have avoided a severe injury and is considered day-to-day. The former first-round pick has been solid this season, posting a 3.21 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts over 14 innings. Gray will undergo further evaluation but looks to have avoided any structural damage.
