Mon Mar 408:21Chris Bassitt Looks To Improve
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt has made two appearances in the Grapefruit League this spring with mixed results. After two scoreless innings of relief in his first outing, Bassitt served up three runs in his most recent performance on Saturday. The veteran got off to a slow start last season, but had a good year overall with a nice 3.60 ERA to go along with 186 k's in 200 innings in 33 starts. His next chance to show off his talent should come in the middle of this week. Entering 2024, Bassitt is a nice 3/4 option for managers as he remains a consistent year-to-year option.

Wed Oct 4 202314:10Chris Bassitt Ready To Pitch Out Of The Bullpen Wednesday
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt is going to be ready to pitch out of the bullpen if needed for Wednesday afternoon's must-win Game 2 of the Wild Card series versus the Minnesota Twins. The Blue Jays have their backs against the wall following a 3-1 loss on Tuesday while Bassitt added that he's "pretty comfortable" coming out of the bullpen. Jose Berrios is the Game 2 starter for Toronto but he will have a short leash if he struggles early. Bassitt has 13 career relief outings, but zero since the beginning of the 2020 season. The 34-year-old worked to a 3.60 ERA across 33 starts and an even 200 innings in his first season with the Blue Jays in 2023.

Fri Sep 29 202300:55Chris Bassitt Hits 200 Innings For First Time
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt was magnificent Thursday, tossing 7 shutout innings and earning the win in a 6-0 victory over the New York Yankees. Bassitt allowed five hits and one walk while striking out a season-high 12 batters. The 34-year-old will end the season at exactly 200 innings pitched, a feat he has never accomplished before. It has been a great year for the veteran, who has pitched to a 3.60 ERA and 1.18 WHIP while racking up 186 strikeouts in the aforementioned 200 IP. He will have solid mid-round value next season.

Thu Sep 28 202317:54Chris Bassitt Tries To Aid Playoff Push In Final Start
The Toronto Blue Jays will try to hang on to an American League wild-card spot while starting pitcher Chris Bassitt takes the mound on Thursday versus the division-rival New York Yankees. The 34-year-old also aims for his 16th win of the campaign during his final start of 2023 and tie Zach Eflin as the AL leader in this category. Bassitt should have a good chance to do so against a Yankees club that he boasts a 1.38 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 14:3 K:BB over 13 career innings since 2021. The right-hander has kept the contact light when opposing the current New York roster, giving up only one extra-base hit in 50 plate appearances. Bassitt should remain deployed across all fantasy formats during championship week.

Fri Sep 22 202321:57Chris Bassitt Picks Up Quality Start, Win
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt threw 6 2/3 innings giving up two earned runs on six hits and zero walks. He struck out eight in a 6-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Bassitt tossed 88 pitches, 61 for strikes while lowering his ERA to 3.74 and running his record to 15-8. Though he doesn't strike out a ton of batters and he gives up his fair share of home runs, he's been a quality starter for a handful of years now. This season, he's pitching like a top-30 starter in fantasy circles and while he'll be 35 next season, he should again provide good numbers.

Wed Aug 30 202318:36Chris Bassitt Throws Eight Shutout Innings
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt put together a masterful performance during Wednesday's game against the Washington Nationals. The right-hander went eight innings, allowing zero runs and three hits in the 7-0 victory. The 34-year-old also struck out three batters while walking one during this contest. He now holds a 3.81 ERA through 27 starts this season. He'll head into a favorable matchup against the Oakland Athletics during his next outing. Fantasy managers should consider Bassitt a solid streaming option for that game.

Sat Jul 15 202310:25Chris Bassitt Moved Up To Start On Saturday
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt will take the hill for Saturday's game versus Zac Gallen and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Bassitt was initially slated to toe the rubber next on July 18 vs. the San Diego Padres, but is having his start pushed ahead for this one with Kevin Gausman (side) scratched with left side discomfort. Since 2021, Bassitt owns a 2.50 ERA with 16 strikeouts over 18 innings pitched against Arizona. The former All-Star has been very volatile all year, carrying a 6.83 ERA across his last six starts (27 2/3 IP) with a scoreless, 12-strikeout gem mixed in between. Bassitt takes a 4.81 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 102 punchouts (109 2/3 IP) overall into Saturday's tilt.

Sat Jun 24 202321:42Chris Bassitt Squanders Bounce Back Opportunity
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcherChris Bassittlimped his way to another mediocre final line in Friday's 5-4 loss to the A's. He allowed four earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings. Bassitt logged a no-decision Friday, keeping his record at 7-5 for the season. The 34-year-old righty had a chance to get back on track when the 30th-ranked offense against right-handed pitchers came to the Rogers Centre, but three singles and a homer resulted in a quick 3-0 deficit in the top of the first. Bassitt settled down for a bit but eventually allowed two more base runners and a sacrifice fly in his fifth and final frame, leaving with the score knotted at 4-4. The lackluster start marks his third short outing in a row. The absence of strikeouts, elevated walk rate, and tendency to allow crooked numbers make Bassitt tough to trust as a fantasy asset outside of deep leagues, even in the easiest of matchups. Bassitt owns a 4.32 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and an 81: 32 K: BB across 93 2/3 innings in 2023. Another home start is on deck for the veteran right-hander, but things get more difficult as he's slated to take on the red-hot San Francisco Giants on Wednesday.

Tue Jun 6 202316:06Chris Bassitt Back From Paternity List
The Toronto Blue Jays reinstated right-hander Chris Bassitt from the paternity list on Tuesday. Bassitt is back from a temporary leave from the team, and he'll make his next start on Wednesday in a tough matchup against the Houston Astros. The 34-year-old veteran starter has basically been a must-start in fantasy lineups each time he toes the rubber this year, as he's gone 6-4 with a 3.41 ERA (4.80 FIP), 1.07 WHIP, 26 walks and 65 strikeouts in 74 innings covering 12 starts in his first year in Toronto. His 4.80 FIP, however, points to some regression eventually, especially with a 21.5 percent strikeout rate and 34.5% hard-hit rate allowed.

Sat May 13 202309:31Chris Bassitt Extends Scoreless Streak To 20 Innings
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt twirled his second career complete-game shutout for his fifth win of the year against the Atlanta Braves on Friday. The 34-year-old authored his most dominant pitching performance of the season, punching out eight batters and extending his scoreless-inning streak to 20 frames dating back to an April 30 start against the Seattle Mariners. Other than a nine-run bombing via the St. Louis Cardinals during the opening week, the former all-star has logged a quality start or better in seven of his previous eight starts. Bassitt will carry a solid 3.49 ERA and 1.08 WHIP, but a concerning 41-to-22 strikeout-to-walk ratio into his next scheduled outing against Gerrit Cole and the New York Yankees on Wednesday at the Rogers Centre.

Mon Apr 24 202322:40Chris Bassitt Says His Back Is Fine
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt (back) said his back injury is fine and that he "won't even miss a bullpen" session. Bassitt left his start early on Monday against the Chicago White Sox due to right lower back tightness, but apparently it's not serious enough to land him on the injured list or even cause him to miss a turn through the starting rotation. Before leaving the game on Monday, the 34-year-old right-hander allowed two runs on three hits while walking three and striking out four in 6 1/3 innings to pick up both a win and a quality start for his fantasy managers. Bassitt came into the game with a 5.40 ERA in 21 2/3 innings over his first four starts, so this was a nice turnaround. Hopefully, he will be able to make his next start.

Mon Apr 24 202321:43Chris Bassitt Leaves Monday Start With Lower Back Tightness
Updating a previous report, Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt left his Monday start against the Chicago White Sox with right lower back tightness. Bassitt left with one out in the seventh inning after he bounced a pitch. He immediately signaled to the trainer after the offering and left the game. There is no timetable for Bassitt's return to the mound but a trip to the injured list is not out of the question, presumably depending on how he progresses over the next few days. Stay tuned.

Mon Apr 24 202321:22Chris Bassitt Leaves Monday's Start With Apparent Injury
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt left his Monday start in the seventh inning with an apparent injury. Bassitt had one out in the seventh inning against the Chicago White Sox before departing. He wound up allowing two runs on three hits in 6 1/3 innings while striking out four and walking three. The Blue Jays replaced him on the mound with Zach Pop after Bassitt bounced a pitch to the plate and immediately motioned for the trainer to come out. Stay tuned as the Blue Jays are likely to update his status following Monday's game.

Fri Apr 7 202308:51Chris Bassitt Looking To Rebound In Friday's Contest
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt is making his second start of the season Friday against Patrick Sandoval and the Los Angeles Angels. His first game of 2023 was anything but how the 34-year-old wanted to start his stint with the Jays, as he went 3.1 innings while giving up nine runs on 10 hits, with no walks or strikeouts. It's unusual for Bassitt, who owns a career 3.55 ERA, and last year pitched to a 3.42 mark with a 22.4% strikeout rate, 1.14 WHIP, and 15 wins with the New York Mets across 30 starts. With his track record, fantasy managers shouldn't be scared to start the nine-year veteran after one bad game.

Mon Dec 12 202219:31Chris Bassitt Signs With The Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays signed free-agent starting pitcher Chris Bassitt to a three-year, $63 million deal on Monday, pending a physical. Bassitt comes over from the New York Mets after going 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA (3.66 FIP), a 1.14 WHIP, 167 strikeouts and 49 walks in 181 2/3 innings over 30 starts in his lone season in Queens. The 33-year-old right-hander will boost a strong Toronto rotation in 2023 and beyond. Bassitt heads to another tough division in the American League East in a tough hitter's ballpark, but he was an All-Star in 2021 with the Oakland Athletics when he went 12-4 with a 3.15 ERA (3.34 FIP) and a 1.05 WHIP in 27 starts.

Fri Nov 11 202213:27Chris Bassitt To Decline Qualifying Offer
New York Mets starting pitcher Chris Bassitt will decline the $19.65 million qualifying offer from the Mets, which doesn't come as a surprise after he already declined his $19 million option for the 2023 season to become a free agent. He is seeking a more lucrative multi-year deal on the open market this offseason, and he should be able to find that after going 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA (3.66 FIP), a 1.14 WHIP, a career-high 167 strikeouts and 49 walks in 181 2/3 innings over 30 starts for the Mets. Bassitt, Jacob deGrom and Taijuan Walker are all free agents this offseason, so the Mets starting rotation could look quite different heading into the 2023 season, especially if they don't bring back deGrom.

Thu Nov 10 202218:28Chris Bassitt Receives Qualifying Offer From Mets
The New York Mets extended the $19.65 million qualifying offer to free-agent starting pitcher Chris Bassitt on Thursday, as expected. The Mets also gave the qualifying offer to right-hander Jacob deGrom and outfielder Brandon Nimmo but didn't give one to starting pitcher Taijuan Walker. It made sense to give Bassitt the $19 million qualifying offer after he declined his $19 million option for the 2023 season. The 33-year-old should be able to secure a nice multi-year deal on the open market after going 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA (3.66 FIP), a 1.15 WHIP, a career-high 167 strikeouts and 49 walks in 181 2/3 innings over his 30 starts in his only season in New York.

Sun Nov 6 202222:14Chris Bassitt To Decline His Mutual Option
New York Mets right-hander Chris Bassitt will decline his $19 million mutual option for the 2023 season, as has been long suspected. Bassitt will be in for a multi-year deal on the open market at that rate or likely more. Even though the 33-year-old didn't do well in his start in the Wild-Card Series against the San Diego Padres, he was solid in his first and perhaps only season in the Big Apple. Bassitt finished his 2022 regular season by going 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA (3.66 FIP), a 1.14 WHIP, a career-high 167 strikeouts and 49 walks in 181 2/3 innings over 30 starts. He made his first All-Star team with the Oakland Athletics in 2021 and posted a solid 22.4 percent strikeout rate this year with the Mets.

Thu Aug 4 202214:25Chris Bassitt Throws Seven Scoreless Innings
New York Mets starting pitcher Chris Bassitt earned his eighth victory of the season Wednesday, throwing seven scoreless innings on six hits and a walk while striking out four batters. Bassitt has now thrown a quality start in seven of his last eight outings, leaving him with a 3.61 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 121 strikeouts in 122 innings across 20 starts this season. He's a better real-life pitcher than fantasy option, but he still represents a very solid rotation anchor in all formats.

Thu Jul 7 202216:03Chris Bassitt Officially Set To Start Friday
New York Mets right-hander Chris Bassitt is officially set to be activated from the injured list and start Friday's game against the Miami Marlins. Bassitt was placed on the COVID-19 injured list last week after testing positive for the virus. The 33-year-old got off to a strong start to the season, posting quality starts in four of his first five outings, but he's been up-and-down ever since. Through 15 starts on the season, he has a 4.01 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.
