SS Jonathan Diaz was reacquired from the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. Diaz, 32, was batting .182 in 37 games with Triple-A Buffalo this season. He hit .207 with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre -- New York's Triple-A affiliate -- in 2016.

Diaz was added to the major league roster ahead of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Orioles, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports.
Diaz has spent four games in the majors this season, going 0-for-5 in those games. In 118 games for Triple-A Buffalo, he's hitting for a .223/.328/.284 slash line. Donn Roach was designated for assignment to make room for Diaz on the 40-man roster.

Diaz went 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and a stolen base for Triple-A Buffalo in Saturday's 11-6 victory over Louisville.
After spending some time in the big leagues this season, Diaz's numbers at the plate in Triple-A were woeful. However, he's picked them up significantly, going 10-for-28 (.357) over his past 10 games and has raised his average from .176 to .230 since May 18. With a rash of injuries, he could find himself back in Toronto, but fantasy owners shouldn't expect too much upon his return as lifetime he's hitting .128 in the big leagues.
Fri May 15 201514:38Diaz cleared outright waivers Friday
Diaz cleared outright waivers Friday, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports.
The Blue Jays needed room on the 40-man roster for 22-year-old infielder Ronald Torreyes, who was acquired from the Astros on Friday. Diaz could still prove useful as a backup infielder at some point this season, but he offers very little upside in the batter's box.
Tue May 5 201514:07Diaz optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday
Diaz was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Sportsnet.ca's Ben Nicholson-SMith reports.
The Jays are opting for an extra bat over infield depth, calling up first baseman/outfielder Chris Colabello to replace Diaz on the 25-man roster. The move is somewhat unusual, as Toronto now has just two true middle infielders (Devon Travis and Ryan Goins) on the roster. It wouldn't be surprising to see Diaz rejoin the big-league club soon, but the Jays are apparently comfortable using Danny Valencia at second base in the event of an emergency.

Diaz will be called up to Toronto with Jose Reyes (ribs) heading to the DL, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports.
Diaz signed a minor league contract ahead of spring training and spent the first portion of his season at Triple-A Buffalo. The 30-year-old has actually been struggling so far this year with a .190 batting average over 42 appearances at the plate. Nevertheless he'll provide some depth at shortstop for Toronto as he slides in behind likely starter Ryan Goins moving forward.
Wed Oct 15 201413:49Diaz signed minor league contract with Blue Jays on Wednesday
Diaz signed a minor league contract with the Blue Jays on Wednesday, which includes an invite to spring training, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports.
While Diaz is just 6-for-42 (.143 average) in 28 career games at the major league level, he's a versatile defender who has shown he can get on base at a steady clip at Triple-A (.351 OBP). He'll attend major league camp with the Blue Jays for a second straight year, but barring injury to one of the team's starters, it seems likely he'll open the year back at Buffalo.
Sat Oct 4 201415:24Diaz has elected free agency
Diaz has elected free agency, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Diaz played five different positions in his 23 games with Toronto this season; shortstop, second base, center field, left field and right. He went just 6-for-38 at the plate, however, leading to his designation for assignment in late June. The 29-year-old will look to catch on elsewhere as organizational depth.

Wed Apr 2 201410:07Diaz expected to be SS with Reyes out
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons indicated Tuesday that Jonathan Diaz will be the team's primary shortstop while Jose Reyes is out.
Toronto also has Ryan Goins and Maicer Izturis available to play short, but Gibbons views Diaz as the best defensive shortstop of the three. "All three guys will play," he said. "The thinking behind that is we want to throw our best defense out there and Diaz is the best shortstop we've got out there, he's really good out there." Diaz started at shortstop Tuesday and had an RBI single and a stolen base. However, he's a career .230/.358/.297 hitter in the minors and doesn't figure to have much fantasy value even in deeper leagues.
