UT Alex Guerrero was released Wednesday, effectively making him a free agent. He was designated for assignment 10 days ago. The Dodgers still will be responsible for his $7.5 million salary this year and next, minus the major league minimum, should Guerrero sign with another team. He is owed a pro-rated portion of $5 million this season; his salary this year and next includes a $2.5 million signing bonus due on Jan. 15 each year. Guerrero injured his knee in spring training and had not appeared in a major league game this season.

Guerrero (leg) made a pinch-hit appearance in Saturday's win over the Diamondbacks, smacking a run-scoring double in the 9-5 victory.
Guerrero was removed early from Friday's game with a strained left calf, but his availability off the bench Saturday suggests the injury isn't too serious. Manager Don Mattingly hasn't utilized Guerrero to nearly the extent he did in the first half of the season, but he should be an important bench bat for the Dodgers during the final month.

Guerrero exited Friday's game with a strained left calf, Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times reports.
The Dodgers did not provide any other details regarding Guerrero's status, but it is now clear what type of setback he is dealing with. He is not playing much these days to begin with, but it remains to be seen when he will be able to do so again.

Guerrero suffered an apparent leg injury in Friday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Guerrero was injured beating out an infield single in a pinch-hit at-bat -- just his third official at-bat this month -- in the third inning of Friday's game. The extent of his setback is uncertain, but expect an update on his status as more details become available.

Guerrero continues to find himself buried on the Dodgers' bench and has accumulated just three pinch-hit at-bats since August 22.
This despite injuries to Yasiel Puig and Howie Kendrick. The Dodgers went out and got Chase Utley, Justin Ruggiano, and even Chris Heisey to bolster the roster, suggesting that Guerrero will remain nothing more than an afterthought this month. Look for a trade this winter.
Wed Aug 12 201518:57Guerrero not in lineup for Wednesday's game against Nationals
Guerrero is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports.
When Justin Turner (leg) landed on the DL, manager Don Mattingly suggested Guerrero would see most of the at-bats at third base, but Alberto Callaspo quickly overtook Guerrero as the top fill-in option at the hot corner. Turner appears close to a return now, so Guerrero's opportunities will likely be reduced even further moving forward.
Thu Aug 6 201510:15Guerrero out of lineup Thursday
Guerrero is out of the lineup Thursday, AM 570's David Vassegh reports.
Guerrero is out of the lineup for the third time over the last four games, and he has just one hit (a home run) in his last 12 at-bats. Guerrero offers the most fantasy upside at third base for the Dodgers with Justin Turner on the DL, but it does not appear that he will be playing on a regular basis. Alberto Callaspo will start at third and hit seventh Thursday.
Wed Aug 5 201514:40Guerrero not in lineup Wednesday against Philadelphia
Guerrero is not in the lineup Wednesday against Philadelphia, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports.
Guerrero has been sharing third base duties with Alberto Callaspo of late with Justin Turner on the DL, and Callaspo will get the nod Wednesday.
Tue Aug 4 201514:01Guerrero in lineup Tuesday against Phillies
Guerrero is in the lineup Tuesday against the Phillies.
He's a cheap option in daily leagues, but Guerrero hasn't hit much at all since April.
Sun Aug 2 201514:26Guerrero out of lineup Sunday against Angels
Guerrero is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels.
Guerrero had received the last three starts at third base with Justin Turner hitting the DL with a leg infection, going 1-for-9 during that span with a home run. Though his defense leaves a lot to be desired, it appears the Dodgers will continue to roll with Guerrero as their primary third baseman, though he'll get the day off Sunday. Alberto Callaspo will man the hot corner in the series finale.
Sat Aug 1 201503:29Guerrero 1-3 with two-run homer in 5-3 win over Angels on Friday
Guerrero went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in a 5-3 win over the Angels on Friday.
Guerrero got some good news Friday as he was told he would get the lion's share of starts at third in the absence of Justin Turner. He responded nicely by hitting his 11th homer of the season off Hector Santiago. It was his first dinger since June 3 and he could be a sneaky pick up for the next few weeks if you're in need of some power off the waiver wire.

Guerrero is expected to get the lion's share of the at-bats at third base while Justin Turner (leg) is on the DL, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Alberto Callaspo and Enrique Hernandez will likely factor in at the position as well, but it sounds like Guerrero will serve as the primary option for a couple weeks at least. Guerrero has gotten progressively worse as the season's wore on -- he's 1-for-19 in July and hasn't homered in almost two months -- but it will be interesting to see if he can finally get it going with regular starts.
Wed Jul 29 201518:37Guerrero (back) back in lineup Wednesday against Oakland
Guerrero (back) is back in the lineup Wednesday against Oakland.
Guerrero's back stiffness held him to one brief appearance since Friday, but he'll draw back into the lineup Wednesday and start at third base with Justin Turner (leg) out of the lineup. He will bat eighth in the order against A's righty Jesse Chavez.
Tue Jul 28 201518:25Guerrero (back) remains out of lineup Tuesday against A's
Guerrero (back) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the A's.
He made a brief appearance in Sunday's game, but Guerrero still has not started a game since being scratched from Friday's lineup with back stiffness. Guerrero could be a wild card at the trade deadline, as he recently said he would consider waiving a clause that allows him to become a free agent at the end of the season if traded.
Sun Jul 26 201510:56Guerrero (back) remains out of lineup Sunday against Mets
Guerrero (back) remains out of the lineup Sunday against the Mets, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Guerrero isn't a regular player for the Dodgers any longer, so it's not apparent whether he's still injured or available off the bench. For what it's worth, he hasn't logged an appearance in either of the previous two games, after he was a surprise scratch Friday night due to the stiff back.
