Darnell wasn't expected to see the field after he was diagnosed with pneumonia, so this move allows the Twins to activate Ricky Nolasco and use him in long relief. Darnell will be eligible for activation in the offseason and again try to compete for a roster spot during spring training.

It was Darnell's fourth career start for the last-place Twins, and again he struggled. Darnell pitched in place of Tommy Milone (neck).

Friday's postponement has opened the door for Darnell to make his fourth start of the season, opposite Scott Carroll in the nightcap of the twin bill.
