The 31-year-old also spent time in the minor league systems of the Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies and finished up his major league career while playing in 24 games with the Rays in 2015."I really never could take a walk in my career, but this walk will be my biggest yet, I'm walking away from baseball," Arencibia wrote in a statement. "I've been blessed to play the game I love professionally for 10 years, with six of those seasons in the MLB. I have done everything with hard work and no shortcuts. I'm so thankful to all the people who have helped me along the way."Arencibia hit two home runs to highlight a four-hit performance in his major league debut on Aug. 7, 2010."So many great memories, nothing biggest than my debut in Toronto," the Miami native said. "Thank you to the Toronto Blue Jays, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays for giving me a chance to live my dream."Toronto and Canada will always hold the biggest part of my heart, I always felt at home there."

Arencibia played 12 games this spring for Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia's Triple-A affiliate, and batted .167 with one homer and two RBIs. He gives the Rays a veteran alternative if something happens to Curt Casali or Hank Conger. "J.P. did a lot of good things for us last year," manager Kevin Cash said. "It's just kind of added depth for us right now."

Wed Sep 23 201515:38Arencibia (hand) in lineup Wednesday against Red Sox
Arencibia (hand) is in the lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox, Bill Chastain of MLB.com reports.
Arencibia was expected to be limited over the next couple days by a hand strain, but it will surprisingly not keep him out of the lineup Wednesday. He will catch and bat seventh for the Rays against Red Sox starter Rick Porcello.
Wed Sep 23 201512:56Arencibia will be limited for few days due to hand strain
Arencibia will be limited for a few days due to a hand strain, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
There's no doubt Arencibia's been on a hot strak since joining the Rays, but there's a strong chance he misses some starts in the next few days. If he does, Luke Maile and Rene Rivera figure to fill in behind the plate.
Sat Sep 19 201514:24Arencibia out of lineup Saturday against Orioles
Arencibia is out of the lineup Saturday against the Orioles, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Arencibia hasn't really cooled off since joining the Rays on Aug. 26, as he's been able to uphold a .354 average and .729 slugging mark while taking over as the team's primary catcher. His run of success won't last forever given his modest career performance, but those in AL-only and two-catcher leagues can ride the wave while it lasts. Fantasy players won't be able to wring much value out of Arencibia on Saturday, however, as he'll be rested in favor of Luke Maile.
Wed Sep 16 201515:42Arencibia out of lineup Wednesday against Yankees
Arencibia is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Yankees, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports.
Arencibia has taken over the primary role behind the plate, excelling offensively to the tune of a .364/.370/.773 battling line with five home runs in 17 games. While it's likely unrealistic for him to continue at that pace, he might be worth riding while he's hot.

Arencibia launched a two-run home run in Tampa Bay's come-from-behind 8-4 win over Boston on Friday night.
He didn't start the game, but pinch-hitting in the eighth inning, he drilled his fifth home run and helped the Rays past the Red Sox. He didn't arrive in Tampa until the end of August, and all he has done since is hit .382 with five home runs and 13 RBI. It's not likely to last, but it's been quite a ride for any fantasy owners who rolled the dice.

Arencibia continued his red-hot September Monday, launching his third home run of the month.
Arencibia, a five-year veteran, didn't reach the Major Leagues this season until August 26. Since that promotion, the backstop has hit .346 with three blasts and 10 RBI in just 26 at-bats. With the way he's swinging the bat, Arencibia should continue to see regular at-bats down the stretch.

Arencibia went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored against Baltimore on Wednesday.
Arencibia's been seeing a good amount of action since being called up by Tampa, and he's answered the bell in a big way over the last two games, smashing a pair of homers among five hits and driving in seven runs. Of course, we've seen power outbursts from the veteran catcher before; they tend to be followed by horrible slumps during which his batting average craters.
Wed Aug 26 201515:42Arencibia called up from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday
Arencibia was called up from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, Bill Chastain of MLB.com reports.
With Curt Casali (hamstring) slated to miss at least the next two weeks while on the DL, Arencibia will come up from Triple-A to split time with Rene Rivera behind the plate. The veteran Arencibia appeared in 63 games for the Rangers last season but he hit just .177 with 62 strikeouts in 63 games. He holds a .227/.259/.443 slash line with 65 RBI for Durham this season, though his high K-rate continues to be a major issue.
