It was a long way back to the majors for the 28-year-old Cuban. Garcia was pitching in his second game for Kansas City after being signed out of the Mexican league. He hadn't appeared in the majors since 2013 for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Garcia was making the start for the injured Danny Duffy.

The Royals list the probables as TBA for the final two games against the White Sox, but manager Ned Yost has hinted Garcia would start one of those days. Garcia gave up two homers, including a grand slam, Sunday in relief at Cleveland, but he settled down and retired 13 of the final 19 he faced. He worked 5 2/3 innings, the longest relief appearance by a Royal since 2012. If Garcia gets the call, it would be his first major league start. He made three relief appearances in 2013 for the Dodgers.

Garcia appeared in just one game last season due to a longer-than-expected recovery from elbow surgery. He is an intriguing prospect, however, having struck out 71 batters and giving up just 49 hits in 64.2 minor league innings. Garcia will have an outside shot to earn a spot in the the White Sox' bullpen during spring training.

The outing was just Garcia's second of the season, after a procedure last winter to clean up his elbow significantly delayed his start to the campaign. Once he gets a few more innings under his belt in the minors and through simulated games, he could be activated by the Dodgers and used out of their bullpen during the final week or two of the season.

Garcia has been a bit behind after undergoing a minor procedure on his left elbow this offseason. The southpaw threw just 1 1/3 innings with the Dodgers last year but had a 2.90 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 62 innings between Double-A and Triple-A.

Garcia is running behind schedule after arthroscopic surgery on his pitching elbow back in November. He should have time to get ready by Opening Day, but the southpaw is likely to begin the year at Triple-A, anyway.

Dodgers prospect left-hander Onelki Garcia underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow on Friday.
Garcia is expected to resume throwing in 5-6 weeks, so he should be fine for spring training. The 24-year-old left-hander posted a 2.90 ERA and 67/35 K/BB ratio over 62 innings at Triple-A Alberquerque this season and should compete for a bullpen spot in 2014.

The Dodgers announced Friday that Onelki Garcia has replaced Pedro Baez on Glendale's roster in the Arizona Fall League.
Garcia, a 24-year-old Cuban southpaw, was originally slated to begin the AFL season with Glendale, but the Dodgers held him back in case he was needed as an injury replacement in the postseason. He appeared in three games for the Dodgers in September allowing a pair of runs and walking four in just 1 1/3 innings. He registered a 2.90 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 67/35 K/BB ratio over 62 innings at Triple-A Alberquerque on the year, and should have a chance to compete for a spot in the Dodgers bullpen during spring training.
