Clay was outrighted off the Angels' 40-man roster Wednesday.
A day after optioning Clay to Triple-A Salt Lake, the Angels went a step further and bumped the 26-year-old right-hander from the 40-man roster. Despite a middling strikeout rate (5.8 K/9), Clay has enjoyed a fare amount of success with Salt Lake this season (3.78 ERA, 1.18 WHIP), but he passed through waivers unclaimed.

Clay was called up over the weekend after the Angels were forced to use eight relievers in Saturday's 19-inning marathon victory over the Red Sox. He didn't see any action with the big league club, however, and will return to Salt Lake, where he's posted a 3.79 ERA in eight starts this season.
