LHP Ian Thomas, who was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Thursday, was released Sunday. Thomas, who was acquired in a trade with the Braves last summer, had not pitched for the Dodgers this season, but he was 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA in eight appearances (two starts) for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Thomas was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

The lefty has made eight appearances between Atlanta and Los Angeles this season, even making a spot start back on July 24, but he's spent most of the year back at Triple-A. Thomas' numbers at that level weren't particularly impressive (4.19 ERA, 1.31 WHIP), but he could see occasional work while serving in a specialist role.

Thomas was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.

One day removed from notching a win in his first major league start, Thomas will head back to the minors to act as organizational depth. In eight appearances between the Dodgers and Braves in 2015, the 28-year-old has given up seven runs on 12 hits and eight walks to go with 13 strikeouts in 15.1 innings.

Thomas allowed one run on three hits, he did not walk a batter, and struck out five over five innings of a 7-2 win against the Mets on Friday night.

Thomas (1-1, 4.11 ERA) gave the Dodgers just what they were hoping for; a few quality innings. With Zack Greinke away on paternity leave, Thomas made his first start of the season, and while the solid performance was against the punchless Mets, he provided a valuable outing. Greinke will be back this weekend, and Brett Anderson is expected to be ready to go early next week, so this was likely a one-time, fill-in performance.

Thomas will start Friday's game against the Mets, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.

With Zack Greinke missing Friday's scheduled start to be with his family, Thomas will get the nod Friday in New York. Thomas, who was called up Wednesday of this week, hasn't made a start this season with the Dodgers. He does, however, have a 5.23 ERA across 10.1 innings of relief work with LA this year.

The Dodgers recalled Thomas from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

The Dodgers decided to switch out left-handers in their bullpen, adding Thomas and demoting Adam Liberatore in the process. J.P. Howell remains the Dodgers' top left-handed reliever, so expect Thomas to be used situationally.

The Dodgers shook up their bullpen prior to Wednesday's game, optioning Thomas and Yimi Garcia, designating Eric Surkamp for assignment, and recalling Josh Ravin and Chin-Hui Tsao. Thomas threw two scoreless innings with one walk and two strikeouts in Tuesday's loss to Philadelphia, his second appearance with Los Angeles.

Thomas has given up six runs in 8.1 innings this season while splitting time between pitching for the Braves and Dodgers. Eric Surkamp was optioned to Triple-A as a corresponding move.

The Dodgers needed to make room for Pedro Baez, who was activated from the disabled list for the corresponding transaction. Thomas has only made one big-league appearance since the Dodgers acquired him from the Braves in late May.

Thomas has joined the Dodgers in Chicago and is active for Monday's game, Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times reports.

Thomas was called up from Triple-A earlier Monday, but he dealt with travel delays on his way to Chicago from Oklahoma City. He's now joined the team at Wrigley and will be in uniform for Monday's contest.

Thomas will come up to fill one of the roster spots vacated by Matt West and Daniel Coulombe, who were both optioned Monday. The reliever is on his way to Wrigley Field, but with inclement weather in the Chicago area, the team is calling him a game-time decision, so it's possible the Dodgers could be a man short Monday.

Thomas is having his best season as a pro, giving up just two earned runs in 5.1 innings with the Braves (3.38) while throwing 12.2 scoreless innings and striking out 16 batters in 12.2 innings with Triple-A Gwinnett. Los Angeles already has two quality left-handers on the big league roster in J.P. Howell and Paco Rodriguez, so Thomas' Dodgers tenure figures to begin with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The Braves needed an arm with Alex Wood (illness) scratched from his scheduled start Friday and Eric Stults coming out of the bullpen to toe the rubber in his absence. Thomas has not given up a run in 15.2 innings between Double-A and Triple-A so far this season, and the lefty allowed just one earned run over 3.1 frames during his first stint with the big club this season.

Thomas was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

Thomas made four appearances in the week and a half he was up, allowing one earned run on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts over 3.1 innings. He was bumped from the 25-man roster in favor of infielder Pedro Ciriaco, leaving Luis Avilan and Donald Veal as the lone lefties in the Atlanta bullpen.

Thomas will replace Andrew McKirahan, who was recently suspended 80 games for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. Thomas struck out 13 batters over 10.2 innings with the Braves in his first taste of the majors last season, but he also surrendered six walks and posted a 4.22 ERA. He was off to an excellent start in the minors this year, with seven punchouts and no runs allowed over 6.1 innings across two levels. While he's shown an impressive ability to miss bats, the 28-year-old left will likely be limited to a middle-relief role, as his control is still a question mark.

Thomas had a 4.22 ERA in 16 appearances as a lefty specialist last year with the Braves, and will serve a similar purpose this season if he is needed at some point.
