Marcum as made seven appearances (six starts) for Cleveland this season, but he's struggled to a 5.40 ERA while striking out 30 over 35.0 innings. He'll likely end up back in Triple-A, where he's found much more success (1.36 ERA) in five starts in 2015.

The Cleveland Indians designated pitcher Shaun Marcum for assignment Thursday, according to MLB.com.
The Cleveland Indians designated pitcher Shaun Marcum for assignment Thursday, according to MLB.com. Marcum began to bounce back from a tough start to the season with a solid outing last Thursday against the Seattle Mariners, when he tossed seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts, but he was hit hard Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs, allowing six runs in two innings, which brought his earned-run average to 5.40 in seven games (six starts) this season. "I wasn't throwing anything where I wanted to," Marcum told Cleveland.com after the game. "It was just one of those things where if I try to throw it in I missed away, if I tried to throw it away I missed in. It just wasn't a good day all around." The Indians used nine pitchers in the 17-0 loss, which necessitated the promotion of pitchers Kyle Crockett and Jeff Manship to the big club in order to help in the bullpen.

Marcum (3-2) gave up six runs on six hits and a walk in just two innings Wednesday against the Cubs.
The Indians' bullpen (including outfielder David Murphy) went on to surrender 11 additional runs while their lineup was silenced. Marcum had generally been surprisingly effective since moving into the rotation, but he's a junkballer, and not a particularly good one. His next start is scheduled for Monday against the Tigers.

Marcum (3-1) shut the Mariners out over seven innings Thursday, allowing just two hits while striking out five in a 6-0 victory.
Bizarrely, despite the fact that Marcum didn't walk a batter, he hit one and threw a pair of wild pitches. Nonetheless, this is a hugely positive outing for Marcum -- the first time in his six appearances that he's kept the opposition in the ballpark. Fantasy owners can't have great expectations, but he's at least establishing AL-only credibility. Marcum will face the Cubs on Tuesday.

Marcum (2-0) allowed two runs on five hits over 5.1 innings in Saturday's victory over Seattle. He walked three and struck out five.
He gave those who rolled him out in fantasy about as much as they could ask for from an oft-injured soft-tosser who didn't pitch in the majors last year, as visiting the Mariners is often a recipe for fantasy success. With six home runs allowed in four starts and a tenuous grip on a rotation spot, Marcum doesn't hold a whole ton of fantasy value. He'll take the mound next against Baltimore on Friday.

Marcum allowed seven runs on four hits and three walks in just 2.2 innings Monday.
Marcum managed to strike out six batters in his brief start but was victimized by a pair of homers. He'll need to pitch better to keep a spot in the Cleveland rotation going forward.

Marcum won his first start in almost two years. Recalled earlier Wednesday from Triple-A Columbus, Marcum gave up solo home runs to Adam Eaton and Conor Gillaspie but not much else. Marcum (1-0) hadn't started a game in the major leagues since July 6, 2013, for the New York Mets, but he was solid Wednesday. He had great command, walking none while striking out six. Marcum will go for win number two in his next scheduled start Monday against Texas.

Marcum was officially recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.
Marcum was already announced as the starter Wednesday, so the official move was just a matter of time. He will take the place of T.J. House in the Indians' rotation, but his stay may be limited to House's stay on the disabled list, but a good showing could make a decision tougher.

Marcum will join the Indians on Wednesday to make a start against the White Sox, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Marcum previously made one appearance with the big club earlier this season, giving up one run over a five-inning relief outing back on April 12. He's since been biding him time at Triple-A Columbus, where he's impressed with a 4-0 mark and 1.36 ERA over 33 innings. The Indians will need to clear out a 40-man spot for Marcum, but he could stick around as the team's fifth starter until T.J. House (shoulder) returns from the DL.

Marcum may be a candidate to start Saturday's game against the Twins, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
With T.J. House (shoulder) both ineffective and injured, the Indians will likely turn to Marcum, Bruce Chen or Zach McAllister, the last of whom is currently pitching out of the big-league bullpen. Marcum owns a 3-0 record and 2.00 ERA over three starts for Triple-A Columbus this season, but he only has 10 strikeouts in 18 innings.

After being designated for assignment Tuesday, Marcum cleared waivers and will report to the Triple-A club. Marcum was designated for assignment Tuesday, MLB.com reports.
With Yan Gomes (knee) expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, the Indians need a spot on the 40-man roster for Brett Hayes. Marcum fared well in his only appearance for Cleveland, holding the Tigers to one run over five innings of mop-up work. If he isn't claimed by another team, the 33-year-old righty could eventually be an option to serve as an injury replacement in the big-league rotation.
