Matthews (quad) had five tackles (three solo) and 1.5 sacks in Sunday's victory over the Rams.
Matthews was slowed some at practice last week by a sore quad, but the setback did not prevent him from taking down the opposing quarterback in the backfield for the third week in a row. Matthews has just 19 tackles (15 solo) this season, but he does have 4.5 sacks -- all coming in the last three games.

Matthews (quadriceps) is active for Sunday's contest against the Rams, the Packers' official site reports.
Despite splitting time at both outside and inside linebacker, Matthews has managed three sacks this season. He'll aim to keep up the pace against a Rams offensive line that has kept Nick Foles' jersey clean, allowing six sacks in four games.

Matthews (quadriceps) was a full participant at practice Friday and is probable for Sunday's game against the Rams.
There was some concern Thursday when Matthews was listed as a limited participant on the team's injury report, however that concern should dissipate quickly considering Matthews was not held up at all during practice Friday. While nothing has been confirmed, it seems likely Matthews will be able to play Sunday against the Rams.

Matthews (quadriceps) was limited at Thursday's practice, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
Matthews commenced preparation for Week 5 with a full practice Wednesday, but his reps were capped Thursday. Matthews recorded six tackles and an interception in Sunday's Week 1 opener against the Bears.
Matthews typically plays as an edge rusher, but an early injury to middle linebacker Sam Barrington forced the Packers to slide him into the middle for the remainder of the game. The All-Pro defender picked off a Jay Cutler pass and nearly returned it for a touchdown during a crucial drive late in the fourth quarter. Matthews is a solid IDP option on a weekly basis and a move to the middle of the field can only help his tackle production.

Matthews (elbow) made his first appearance in the preseason Saturday, totaling one tackle in limited action against the Eagles.
While Matthews' position within the Packers defense will remain murky leading up to the regular season, it's clear he will be counted on to buoy what appears to be a weak linebacking core. The potential move to inside linebacker might result in more tackles for Matthews, but it could jeopardize his sack totals, although that was not an issue late last year. However, with seemingly limited pass-rushing options available on defense, the 29-year-old will still be asked to put pressure on the quarterback as often as possible.

Matthews (elbow) is expected to make his preseason debut Saturday versus the Eagles, Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Matthews (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice due to an elbow injury, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
Prior to practice, head coach Mike McCarthy relayed Matthews' new injury concern, which was expected to keep him on the sideline Wednesday. However, Matthews participated in individual and position group drills, before watching the team portion of practice. In order to avoid his elbow or knee injuries following him into the regular season, he's a candidate to miss Sunday's preseason game at Pittsburgh.
Sat Aug 15 201515:07Matthews (knee) returned to practice Saturday
Matthews (knee) returned to practice Saturday, Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin reports.
Matthews has dealt with a sore knee in the first weeks of training camp, missing Thursday's preseason opener at New England as a result. No one would be surprised if the Packers continue to play it safe with their premier pass rusher in both practices and upcoming exhibitions with the regular season in mind.

Matthews (knee) didn't travel with the Packers for Thursday's preseason opener at New England, Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin reports.
Matthews has been afflicted by a sore knee in the early stages of training camp, and his "trial" return to the practice field Monday "went well." Nonetheless, his veteran status will afford him all the rest he can handle in order to stay fresh for the regular season.
Mon Aug 10 201516:54Clay Matthews: (Knee) Practices Monday
Matthews (knee) stated that Monday's practice "went well," but he remains questionable to take the field Thursday at New England, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Matthews had missed the last week of drills in order to alleviate discomfort in his knee. While his return Monday was merely a "trial" session, a better indication of his health will arrive when he's able to fit in something resembling a full workload. In the meantime, limited reps are expected to rule this week, meaning he may not participate in the Packers' first preseason tilt.

Matthews (knee) will make a "trial return" to practice Monday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Matthews missed practice last week due to a sore knee, but will return to action this week on a trial-and-error basis to test any limitations. Since the Packers open the preseason already on Thursday, Matthews probably won't be ready to suit up then, but it's at least encouraging for Green Bay to have him back on the practice field.

Matthews is participating in drills with the inside linebackers during Packers training camp, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Matthews began to see more reps at inside linebacker near the end of last season, and the success there caused many to speculate that a more permanent position change was on the horizon. Although he plans to play both inside and outside linebacker in the upcoming season, Matthews started at inside linebacker in the Green Bay base defense during Thursday's practice. Should he ultimately play more downs while lined up on the inside, it will have a noticeable effect on his tackle total, making him extra valuable as an IDP. Even playing the position part-time in 2014 resulted in a career-best 61 combined tackles. Matthews still collected 11 sacks in last year's campaign, making the move even more encouraging.
Thu May 28 201516:59Matthews will continue to play multiple positions in 2015
Matthews will continue to play multiple positions in 2015, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Coach Mike McCarthy was queried on the subject during Thursday's media availability, and he essentially confirmed that the Packers will continue to utilize the versatile Matthews at both inside and outside linebacker. "Clay Matthews is a great pass rusher," McCarthy said. "He's going to continue to play as many different positions as we can get out of him. We need to utilize him as much as we can." Matthews has been used in various roles since entering the league in 2009, and he's posted double-digit sack numbers in four of his six NFL seasons. After recording 7.5 sacks in 2013 (11 games), Matthews rebounded with 11.0 in 2014 to go with a career-best 61 combined tackles.
