David Wright (back) was activated off the disabled list Monday and moving Leathersich over to the 60-day allowed for the movement to take place. Leathersich underwent Tommy John surgery just a month ago and will have a tough time returning for the 2016 season, making him a hard player to utilize in anything but dynasty formats.

Leathersich has been able to miss bats at an exceptional clip throughout his minor league career (15.3 K/9) and has shown improvement with his control so far this year, issuing just three walks in his first 11.1 innings with Las Vegas.

Leathersich competed for a roster spot this spring, but he was knocked around a bit, and will thus open his season in the minors. Leathersich throws left-handed and struck out a whopping 93 batters in 54.1 minor league innings last season, so he could be an option for the Mets at some point this season.

Leathersich continued his rough spring, allowing five runs Saturday, and is pretty much locked into starting the season back in the minors.

Leathersich walked three and allowed two hits while retiring only one hitter. He so far has failed in his goal of showing better control, walking five in 1.1 innings this spring.

Leathersich, whose main goal this spring is to display better control, walked the first two batters he faced Wednesday, ESPN New York reports.

Leathersich recovered to retire the side, but his 7.6 BB/9 at Triple-A Las Vegas after his promotion may be a major impediment to him making the team this spring. He is likely to begin the year back in the minors.
