CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox placed reliever Ian Hamilton on the 10-day injured list Saturday because of a sore right shoulder.The White Sox also transferred utilityman Leury García (sprained left thumb) to the 45-day injured list. Veteran infielder Cheslor Cuthbert was brought up from Chicago's alternate training site in Schaumburg, and left-hander Bernardo Flores was recalled to serve as the 29th man for Saturday's doubleheader against St. Louis.Manager Rick Renteria said García had an MRI that showed a severed ligament, requiring surgery.“Looks like October would be the potential return for him,” Renteria said.Hamilton has no record and a 4.50 ERA in four appearances this season. The Chicago White Sox plan to give Michael Kopech whatever he needs to deal with a personal matter.In the meantime, they have plenty of intriguing arms for their summer camp.Kopech was excused from team activities Friday, and general manager Rick Hahn said he doesn’t have a timeline for the return of one of baseball's top pitching prospects. “Given the time we're living through together I will try to answer the question that's probably now at the top of everybody's mind and just share the fact that currently Michael is healthy,” Hahn said on a video conference call.Kopech is coming back from Tommy John surgery in September 2018. (AP) — Maikel Franco has a new look to go along with a new attitude.Franco had short hair, rather than his usual shoulder-length dreadlocks, when he arrived at the Kansas City Royals’ spring training clubhouse.In fact, Royals catcher Salvador Pérez did not recognize him at first when Franco showed up in Miami to work out together."In general, I just want to be different this year,” Franco said. “A new year, a new team, a new experience. I’ve got a lot of reputation, but I’m just trying to be a new guy.”Franco was let go by the Philadelphia Phillies after hitting .234 with 17 home runs and 56 RBIs last season. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals hired Mike Matheny on Thursday, bringing in a manager who took the cross-state Cardinals to the World Series six years ago before a three-season swoon cost him his job.The 49-year-old Matheny went 591-474 with the Cardinals from 2012-18 and was the first manager to reach the postseason his first four seasons.
