Fri Apr 29 202211:57Travis Shaw DFA'd, Franchy Cordero Joining Red Sox
Boston Red Sox designated infielder Travis Shaw for assignment on Friday and are calling up Franchy Cordero to take his place on the roster, according to multiple sources. The team is also expected to activate pitchers Tanner Houck and Kutter Crawford from the restricted list. Shaw made the roster on a minor league deal, but has struggled since then. He is 0-for-19 with seven strikeouts this season, so it's not shocking to see the team deciding to make a change. Cordero willplay outfield and possibly some first base when Bobby Dalbec needs a break.

Sun Sep 12 202100:28Travis Shaw Homers, Drives In Four
Boston Red Sox infielder Travis Shaw delivered the biggest hit of the game Saturday, driving a three-run home run over the fence to knock Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease out of the game. Shaw went 2-for-5, adding a single and an additional RBI to his line. Shaw has taken some excellent at-bats since being added to the roster, and he stands to garner semi-regular playing time against right-handed pitching. He and his nine homers on the year could be useful in deep daily leagues despite his .671 OPS.

Wed Aug 25 202101:33Travis Shaw Adds Solo Shot Tuesday
Boston Red Sox infielder Travis Shaw homered for the second time in this stint with the club on Tuesday, going 1-for-3 with a walk and the big fly against the Minnesota Twins. He struck out in his other two times at the plate. Shaw is making good on his opportunities thus far, but his playing time should diminish later in the week once Kyle Schwarber starts manning first base. However effective he may be, a bench bat has no place on fantasy rosters.

Tue Aug 24 202101:17Travis Shaw Hits Walk-Off Grand Slam
Boston Red Sox infielder Travis Shaw delivered the biggest hit of the day Monday, launching a walk-off grand slam over the right-center field fence to give the Red Sox an 8-4 win in 11 innings over the Texas Rangers. It was Shaw's only hit in two at-bats after coming on partway through the contest. Shaw seems to be in a time-share at first base with Bobby Dalbec, but his playing time figures to shrink further when Kyle Schwarber is comfortable enough to play the position. Shaw is well off the fantasy radar.

Sun Aug 15 202113:43Travis Shaw Returning to Red Sox
Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Travis Shaw is returning to the Boston Red Sox after getting claimed off waivers, according to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe, citing a league source. Shaw, who started his career with Boston in 2015, has slashed .191/.279/.337 in 178 at-bats this season. That makes the 31-year-old infielder a non-factor, even in deep leagues, but given his past success as a power hitter he could be a name to monitor in case he plays his way into regular at-bats in the American League.

Wearing orange and black instead of blue and orange, Harvey (3-3) gave up a season-high seven runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings, and his ERA rose from 3.60 to 4.81 as the last-place Orioles lost for the fifth time in six games. Taijuan Walker (3-1) lowered his ERA to 2.20, allowing one run and four hits over seven innings as part of a five-hitter. Mon May 3 202103:13Royals love to run -- and they've raced to MLB's top mark
Whit Merrifield made his big league debut for Kansas City in 2016, the season after the Royals won the World Series. Five years later, he's trying to lead another resurgence for a team whose identity should be pretty familiar by now. The Royals are still trying to beat teams on the basepaths. Merrifield already has eight stolen bases, tied for the major league lead. As a team, Kansas City has 22 steals. Only San Diego has more. That's despite the fact that Adalberto Mondesi, last year's major league leader in steals, hasn't played for the Royals in 2021 because of an oblique injury. That's not to say the Royals can't hit for power. Carlos Santana and Salvador Perez have six homers each. Jorge Soler is off to a slow start this year, but he went deep 48 times just two seasons ago. Kansas City (16-10) has the best record in baseball, although that note comes with a word of caution: The Royals have been outscored by three runs on the season. They won their first six one-run games before finally... [More]
Sun May 2 202101:23Conforto HR in 9th, questionable call help Mets beat Phils
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Michael Conforto hit a tiebreaking home run in the ninth inning and the New York Mets benefited from a very questionable call by the second base umpire to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 Saturday night. Conforto led off the ninth by connecting against Hector Neris (1-3). Conforto also had a two-run double in a four-run first inning against former teammate Zack Wheeler. The Mets squandered the 4-0 lead but recovered to win for just the fourth time in 12 games — even after center fielder Brandon Nimmo and third baseman J.D. Davis exited with hand injuries. Alec Bohm tied it with a two-run homer for the Phillies, who have alternated wins and losses in their last 10 games. Philadelphia hasn’t won consecutive games since a three-game sweep of Atlanta to open the season. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, second base umpire Jose Navas ruled Andrew McCutchen ran out of the baseline to avoid an attempted tag by shortstop Francisco Lindor on what became an inning-ending... Wed Apr 21 202101:50Urías gets better of Mariners, Gonzales in 1-0 Dodgers win
SEATTLE (AP) — Julio Urías threw seven dominant innings of one-hit ball, striking out a career-high 11 and leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 1-0 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday. Corey Seager drove in the only run with a two-out single in the third inning after AJ Pollock’s leadoff double. Those were the Dodgers’ only hits in the game. Seattle’s lone hit against Urías (3-0) was Mitch Haniger’s slow infield single with two outs in the third inning. Victor González worked the eighth, and Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save to complete the one-hittter. Gonzales (1-2) allowed two hits and struck out six. He retired the final 13 batters he faced. ATHLETICS 7, TWINS 0, 1ST GAME ATHLETICS 1, TWINS 0, 2ND GAME OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Matt Olson hit a grand slam and Mitch Moreland homered twice to back Sean Manaea’s shutout, and Jesús Luzardo followed with his own Game 2 gem as Oakland swept a doubleheader against depleted Minnesota. Thu Apr 15 202102:10Rodón no-hits Indians after losing perfect game bid in 9th
CHICAGO (AP) — Carlos Rodón threw the second no-hitter of the young baseball season Wednesday night, losing his bid for a perfect game on a hit batter with one out in the ninth inning, and the Chicago White Sox cruised to an 8-0 victory over the Cleveland Indians. The left-hander retired his first 25 batters before he plunked Roberto Pérez on the back foot with an 0-2 slider. An incredulous Rodón looked on almost in bewilderment as Pérez made his way to first. Rodón (2-0) regained his composure in time to strike out Yu Chang looking and retire Jordan Luplow on a sharp grounder to third, starting a joyous celebration. It was the first no-hitter for the White Sox since Lucas Giolito pitched one Aug. 25 last year against Pittsburgh and No. 20 in franchise history, second-most among major league teams behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (23). Rodón’s gem came just five days after Joe Musgrove threw a no-hitter for his hometown Padres at Texas. Rodón threw 75 of his 114 pitches for strikes. He struck... [More]

Wed Apr 14 202121:10Red Sox sweep doubleheader from Twins, extend streak to 9
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Alex Verdugo had three hits, including a two-run single in a six-run fifth inning, and the Boston Red Sox extended their winning streak to nine games, beating the Minnesota Twins 7-1 to sweep Wednesday’s doubleheader. Eduardo Rodríguez (2-0) pitched five innings and gave up one run on five hits for Boston, which has come from behind in six of its nine wins this season. The Red Sox have their longest winning streak since a 10-game run in 2018, a season that ended with a World Series title. Verdugo had five hits in the doubleheader and capped the day with his second homer of the season in the seventh inning. José Berríos (2-1) surrendered four runs in 4 1/3 innings for Minnesota, giving up four hits and three walks. Berríos walked Franchy Cordero with the bases loaded for the first run of the fifth before departing. The Twins have lost five straight. The Red Sox won the first game 3-2. Nathan Eovaldi (2-1) gave up two runs on five hits in five innings for the Red Sox. Matt... [More]
Wed Apr 7 202103:23Soto's single lifts Nationals over Braves in delayed opener
WASHINGTON (AP) — Juan Soto drove in the winning run with a single on a 3-0 pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday, lifting the coronavirus-depleted Washington Nationals to a 6-5 comeback victory over the Atlanta Braves after waiting five days to start their season. Lefty reliever Will Smith (0-1) entered for the ninth and promptly gave up a single to new leadoff hitter Victor Robles, and then hit Trea Turner with a pitch. That brought up Soto, the 2020 NL batting champion, and he delivered a line drive to center field. Ronald Acuña Jr., Freddie Freeman and Dansby Swanson homered against Washington ace Max Scherzer. Acuña drove Scherzer's first pitch of the game deep to left-center, and led off the third with his second homer. Turner hit a two-run shot for the Nationals. Daniel Hudson (1-0) got the win. Because of a COVID-19 outbreak — four players tested positive; seven were forced into quarantine after potentially being exposed — Washington’s first four scheduled games were scrapped.... [More]
