RHP Chad Jenkins, designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Saturday, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday. Jenkins, 28, appeared in two games for Toronto last year, allowing two runs in 3 2/3 innings. He spent most of the season with Buffalo, where he went 8-6 with one save and a 2.98 ERA in 41 appearances (11 starts).

Jenkins, 28, appeared in two games for Toronto last year, allowing two runs in 3 2/3 innings. Jenkins was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports.

Jenkins previously had a five-game stint with Toronto in May, but has since toiled in the minors. He had pitched at least 30 innings in the three season prior, so it's unusual that the Blue Jays didn't use him more in his final option year. The 27-year-old figures to work as a long man and mop-up man in the season's final month.

Jenkins was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, SportsNet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reports.

The Blue Jays continue to shake up the bullpen, this time recalling Ryan Tepera from Triple-A. Jenkins is in his final option year, and could be coming and going all summer as the Jays' needs require.

Jenkins will replace Scott Copeland as the Jays' long reliever, which could eventually lead to some spot starts. While he doesn't walk many batters, and had a fantastic ground-ball rate (57.3 percent) over 31.2 big-league innings last season, Jenkins has never been able to pile up strikeouts. His K/9 marks have consistently been in the 4-6 range at the upper levels of the minors over the past few season.

Jenkins was sent down to minor league camp on Wednesday, John Lott of the National Post reports.

Jenkins had a horrible spring, giving up eight earned runs and 12 hits including two home runs across 6.2 innings. Jenkins split his time between Triple-A Buffalo and the Blue Jays last season, posting very solid numbers in the majors. He held a 2.56 ERA across 31.2 innings last season with 18 strikeouts in Toronto, but after breaking his hand in batting practice last season, couldn't regain the form he found while with the Blue Jays.

Jenkins was transferred to the 60-day DL on Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Jenkins was already set to miss the remainder of the 2014 season after having surgery to repair a fractured right hand in early-September, so the move is merely procedural. It will clear up an extra spot on the 40-man roster, allowing the Blue Jays to add depth for their regular season finale.

The right-hander took a pitch off of his hand during batting practice last week and, consequently, will miss the remainder of the 2014 season. A four-to-six week recovery period is expected before he'll return to baseball activities.

Jenkins was taking batting practice prior to Thursday's game when he was hit in the hand with a pitch. It's a rough end to the season for the right-hander, who posted a 2.56 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 31.2 innings in the big leagues.

In 21 games with the big club this season, Jenkins recorded a 2.56 ERA, 1.263 WHIP, and 18:6 K:BB in 31.2 innings. He'll assume middle-relief duty for the Blue Jays, after Sergio Santos was designated for assignment as a corresponding move.

Jenkins has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports.

The corresponding move will be announced Saturday. Jenkins gave up one run on five hits over 2.2 innings after starter Marcus Stroman failed to get out of the first inning Friday night. The Jays will almost certainly add a fresh arm to their bullpen for Saturday's game after six relievers combined to toss 7.1 frames Friday night.

Jenkins threw six shutout innings in relief to earn the win in the Jays' 19-inning win over the Tigers. He allowed seven hits and a walk, striking out four.

Fortunately for Jenkins, he wasn't rewarded with a trip to Triple-A for his efforts, at least not yet, as Ryan Goins instead got the axe to make room for Brad Mills on the roster.

The right-hander will return for his fifth stint with the major league club this season, after posting a 3.72 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 15 appearances earlier in the year. Jenkins will once again provide depth in the middle innings for the Blue Jays. A corresponding roster move was not immediately announced.
