INF Luis Sardinas was claimed off waivers Wednesday from the San Diego Padres. He batted .163 with one RBI and one stolen base in 29 games for San Diego this season and was designated for assignment. "I know what I read in the media guide before I came down here," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "That's to be continued so I wouldn't go too deep on the bio." Baltimore had a spot on its 40-man roster so there was no need for a corresponding move.. Sardinas is a lifetime .229 batter with four homers, 31 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 174 big leagues games for the Padres, Milwaukee Brewers and Texas Rangers dating back to 2014.

INF Luis Sardinas was designated for assignment by the Padres Sunday afternoon before the club departed onm a seven-game trip to the New York Mets and Washington. The move opened a spot on the 25-man roster for INF Chase d'Arnaud. Sardinas was in the running to be the Padres regular shortstop in spring training, but lost the job to Erick Aybar.
