DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies say left-handed pitcher Tim Collins has opted out of the 2020 season.He's the second player within the organization who has withdrawn. In late June, Rockies outfielder Ian Desmond announced he wouldn't play this season in part because of the coronavirus pandemic.Collins was with the team when training started again, but didn’t make the club’s 30-man opening day roster. The 30-year-old Collins had a 3.12 ERA for the Chicago Cubs last season over 8 2/3 innings. He's also appeared in games for Kansas City and Washington since signing as an amateur free agent with Toronto in 2007. ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Washington Nationals have placed reliever Ryan Madson on the 10-day disabled list with a back injury.Madson surrendered David Bote's game-ending grand slam in Sunday night's 4-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs. The Nationals said Monday that Madson was dealing with back issues, but the plan was for him to pitch through it.The 37-year-old Madson is 2-5 with a 5.19 ERA and four saves in 48 games this season.The Nationals also promoted right-hander Trevor Gott and left-hander Tim Collins from Triple-A Syracuse before Tuesday's game against St. Louis. LHP Tim Collins is scheduled to have Tommy John surgery Friday. It will be his second reconstructive elbow surgery 13 months. He had not pitched since Game 6 of the 2014 World Series.

LHP Tim Collins, who needs a second Tommy John surgery, was placed on the 60-day disabled list Sunday. He also had his pitching elbow reconstructed in spring training 2015.

LHP Tim Collins and the Royals avoided salary arbitration with a one-year, $1.475 million contract agreement. The 26-year-old missed the 2015 season after undergoing Tommy John elbow ligament reconstruction surgery. His salary will be the same in 2016 as it was in 2015. The Royals are expected to use Collins in a middle-relief role next season once he is healthy. In 228 career appearances, he has a 12-17 record with a 3.56 ERA.

Collins was transferred to the 60-day DL on Thursday, the Kansas City Star's Andy McCullough reports.

The Royals just needed to open up a roster spot for recently acquired Drew Butera, and with Collins set to miss the entire 2015 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery he was an obvious candidate.

Collins (elbow) was placed on the 15-day DL Sunday.

Collins has already underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery, so the move to the disabled list is merely a formality at this point. Look for the Royals to soon transfer him to the 60-day DL to free up an extra 40-man roster spot. In the meantime, the 25-year-old reliever will begin an arduous rehab process with the hopes of pitching in the majors by the summer of 2016.

Collins (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery Tuesday and will miss the remainder of the season, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.

Collins' MRI earlier indicated ligament damage in his throwing elbow, so it comes as no surprise that he will undergo the season-ending procedure. It's possible he could be available for the beginning of the 2016 season, but that will become clearer as that time approaches.

Even though the team is getting a second opinion it's hard to see Collins pitching in the coming months. There's no word yet on if the right-hander needs Tommy John surgery, so check back for more updates as Collins' prognosis is further revealed.
