Wed Oct 8 201400:15Josh Beckett: Announces Retirement
Beckett announced Tuesday that he will retire, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.
He was going to need a pretty serious hip surgery in order for him to take the mound again, and the 34-year-old evidently decided that he was satisfied with his legacy at this point. In addition to winning two World Series rings and making three All-Star teams, Beckett was able to pitch a no-hitter in 2014 for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers transferred Beckett (hip) to the 60-day disabled list Saturday.
Beckett revealed Friday that he would not pitch again this season, so Saturday's move was primarily procedural. Beckett posted a 2.88 ERA in 20 starts this season, but he was again limited by injuries, so it remains to be seen what his next step will be.
Fri Sep 5 201418:58Josh Beckett: (Hip) Done For The Season
Beckett (hip) said that he is done for the season, the L.A. Times' Dylan Hernandez reports.
This should come as no surprise based on everything we've learned about Beckett's situation over the past few weeks. He said that he will need to talk with his wife about his future, but hip surgery will be necessary for him to pitch again, even with shutting it down this season. He holds little value in dynasty leagues at this point with his future so uncertain, and he should have already been dropped in most single-season leagues.
Wed Sep 3 201415:40Josh Beckett: (Hip) Season Likely Over
Manager Don Mattingly announced Wednesday that Beckett's (hip) season is likely over, Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times reports. "I think the timing of him being able to get back is probably not very possible at this point, that we're going to be able to see him again this year," Mattingly said.
Beckett was one of the surprise performers through the first half of the season, posting a 2.02 ERA and tossing his first career no-hitter after returning from surgery to treat thoracic outlet syndrome. He saw his performance dip after the All-Star break and has been out since Aug. 8 with the hip impingement, with the Dodgers closing the door on a possible return after an unsuccessful session of catch last week. It's unknown at this time if Beckett will opt for surgery to rectify the hip issue in the offseason, but either way, the soon-to-be free agent will likely have to settle for a one- or two-year deal in the winter due to his health concerns.
Mon Aug 18 201400:38Beckett (hip) appears to be long shot to pitch again this year
Beckett (hip) appears to be a long shot to pitch again this year, though a return in September has not been officially ruled out, the Dodgers' official site reports.
Beckett will either return as a starter or not at all, according to manager Don Mattingly. At this point, getting anything meaningful out of Beckett in 2014 appears unlikely.
Fri Aug 8 201418:48Josh Beckett: (Hip/Groin) May Pitch Again In 2014
Beckett has a groin strain as well as the hip issue that landed him on the 15-day DL Friday, but manager Don Mattingly "anticipates" Beckett will pitch again this season, the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett reports.
When reports first surfaced that Beckett was headed to the DL, a report from MLB.com's Ken Grunick stated that Beckett's teammates thought he was done for the season and that Beckett was considering retirement, as the hip injury will not heal without surgery. However, as long as Mattingly is not confirming those concerns, we have to entertain the notion that Beckett could indeed pitch again in 2014. Mattingly said Beckett will need 10 to 14 days rest before the team reevaluates him.
Fri Aug 8 201418:06Josh Beckett: (Hip) Placed On DL
Beckett (hip) was officially placed on the 15-day DL Friday, the L.A. Times' Dylan Hernandez reports.
This was anticipated after he underwent an MRI on his injured hip Thursday, and it's quite possible that he's done for the season. Roberto Hernandez will replace Beckett in the rotation, and owners in single-season leagues without a DL spot to stash Beckett may need to think about cutting ties at this point.
Thu Aug 7 201416:54Josh Beckett: (Hip) Likely Headed For DL
Beckett underwent an MRI on his hip and will likely be placed on the DL, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. There's a chance he may miss the remainder of the season.
Beckett was previously considered iffy for his scheduled start Friday, but it's now a sure thing that he'll be replaced by Roberto Hernandez, who was acquired by the Dodgers on Thursday. Beckett has been a bit shaky of late, so it's not overly surprising to see that an injury may have played a role. Hernandez could be in line for regular starts moving forward, should Beckett be forced to miss extended time.
Thu Aug 7 201414:30Beckett scheduled to start Friday against Milwaukee
Beckett is scheduled to start Friday against Milwaukee, but he could see that pushed back given Thursday's acquisition of Roberto Hernandez, Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports reports.
Beckett could probably use the rest given his 6.55 ERA in his last five starts.

Beckett will make his next start Friday against the Brewers confirmed manager Don Mattingly, the Dodgers' official site reports.
Beckett has a 6.55 ERA in his last five starts and is still likely being bothered by a sore hip. It's possible the club could put him on the DL should things not go well on Friday, but that's just speculation at this point.

Beckett (6-6) struggled once again in Sunday's loss to the Cubs, allowing six hits and three earned runs in four innings. He struck out six and walked three.
Beckett, who threw 53 of his 94 pitches for strikes, has failed to get through the fifth inning in three consecutive outings and now has a 6.55 ERA and 1.86 WHIP over his last five starts. He faces a tough matchup in Milwaukee in his next scheduled start on Friday.

Beckett was shelled by the Braves on Tuesday for four runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings. He walked four and struck out two, but didn't factor into the decision.
He labored through this one, needing 105 pitches (60 strikes) just too record 10 outs. Beckett ends up finishing July with an ugly 6.50 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over four starts. He'll look to start August off on the right foot when he takes on the Cubs this Sunday.
Wed Jul 30 201402:01Beckett fails to complete 5 innings in ND
Josh Beckett was bombed for four runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision Tuesday versus the Braves.
It was a nightmare from the outset, as Beckett also walked four. Fortunately, his offense and bullpen bailed him out in the 8-4 victory. Beckett was thrilled to see the Braves after not facing them for more than five years -- he entered the night 6-0 with a 0.38 ERA in his last seven outings against the club. Beckett was 0-4 with a 3.30 ERA in his last five home starts. The veteran gets the Cubs in Los Angeles next time around.

Tue Jul 22 201423:14Beckett struggles, but takes a no-decision
Josh Beckett went home with a no-decision after allowing four runs in 3 2/3 innings in Tuesday's 12-7 loss to the Pirates.
The Pirates had Beckett's number, bashing five extra-base hits against the right-hander before chasing him with two outs in the fourth. Gregory Polanco, Neil Walker, and Ike Davis each homered against him. Overall, Beckett allowed six hits, walked none, and struck out four. The veteran has otherwise had a great season, now carrying a 2.52 ERA with a 2.52 ERA and a 99/32 K/BB ratio. He'll match up against the Braves at home next Wednesday.

He still has a labrum tear and some cysts, but the veteran right-hander is going to try to pitch through the discomfort. Beckett boasts a 2.26 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 95/32 K/BB ratio in 103 2/3 innings this season.

Sat Jul 19 201413:25Beckett feels better than expected after pen
Josh Beckett admitted that he felt "better than expected" on Saturday after throwing off a mound for the first time since his cortisone injection.
His MRI revealed a small labrum tear in his hip, though it's believed to be something that he can pitch through. The team remains hopeful that Beckett will be cleared to rejoin the rotation against the Pirates on Tuesday.

Fri Jul 18 201419:02Dodgers hopeful Beckett will start on Tuesday
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Friday that he remains hopeful that Josh Beckett (hip) will be able to rejoin the rotation on Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

Thu Jul 10 201422:54Josh Beckett (hip) plays catch Thursday
Josh Beckett (hip) played catch from 90 feet Thursday.
It came just three days after he had a cortisone injection in his left hip. "Josh feels pretty good," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "Played catch up to 90 feet, felt good. We're hopeful that this time will allow the injections and all of that to take hold, and we'll be able to strengthen areas that he needs to and just kind of feel better in general." The Dodgers are hoping the right-hander will only miss one start.

Tue Jul 8 201415:11Dodgers place Beckett (hip) on 15-day DL
Dodgers placed RHP Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 7, with a left hip impingement.
With the All-Star break coming up, Beckett might only have to miss one start. The Dodgers have called up right-hander Pedro Baez to take his spot on the active roster.
