Wed Sep 28 201119:00Pat Burrell goes 1-for-3 in finale
In the lineup for the first time since Sept. 3, Pat Burrell went 1-for-3 before being removed from Wednesday's game against the Rockies.
Burrell had been 0-for-7 this month, so it's nice to see him finish off the season, and maybe his career, with one hit. His foot problems have left his future up in the air. He's physically capable of serving as a DH, but since he was such a failure with the Rays in that role, it's probably not an option.

Pat Burrell will start in left field in Wednesday's season finale against the Rockies.
Burrell hasn't played the field since September 3 due to a chronic strain to his right foot, but acknowledged Tuesday that he wanted to play because Wednesday could be his final game in the big leagues. "I don't know what's going to happen next year, and if there was something at stake, I wouldn't ask," said Burrell. "Now that we're winding down, I kind of politicked my way into it." Burrell, 34, has a .253 lifetime batting average to go along with 292 home runs and 976 RBI.

It's still no sure thing that he'll be able to play through the pain and even if he does, he will likely just be a right-handed bat off the bench in September.

Wed Jul 27 201122:24Giants will release Burrell, option Belt
The Giants are expected to release Pat Burrell and option Brandon Belt to Triple-A Fresno in order to clear room on the 40-man and 25-man rosters for Carlos Beltran.
Burrell is currently on the disabled list with a bone spur in his right foot and it's unclear when he would be ready to return. The Giants evidently don't want to wait and find out. He was batting .233/.342/.419 before landing on the DL. Belt has four hits in 12 at-bats since rejoining the big club earlier this month, but with the addition of Beltran and Aubrey Huff still around to cover first base, he wasn't going to get a ton of playing time.

Pat Burrell is fine with a reduced role in San Francisco.
"I'm here to do whatever they want me to," Burrell said. "Do I want to play? Of course I want to play, but I realize where I fit in, and I also know if I get hot, I will be in there." Burrell has mostly been relegated to the bench since Andres Torres came off the disabled list on May 10, and hit just .208 with zero home runs in the month of May. He isn't looking set to be very valuable in NL-only leagues going forward.
