(AP) — The Boston Red Sox have traded infielder Deven Marrero to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a player to be named or cash.The Red Sox announced the deal Saturday, five days before all major league teams play their opener.The 27-year-old Marrero hit .211 with four homers and 27 RBIs for Boston last season. He played in 22 spring training games this year and batted .245.Marrero made 50 starts at third base for the Red Sox in the last three seasons.

INF Deven Marrero was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket before Sunday's game after finishing up strong in the minors. Marrero hit .370 (23-for-73) in his final 19 games of the season at Triple-A. He also has appeared in 58 games during three previous stints with the Red Sox. During those stints, Marrero batted .212 with three homers and 23 RBIs while also posting a .977 fielding percentage (three errors in 130 chances).

INF Deven Marrero was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket. Marrero was recalled from Pawtucket on Wednesday, when Boston put OF Jackie Bradley Jr. (thumb) on the 10-day disabled list.
