Sat Aug 28 202123:41Sean Nolin Solid In Loss
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Sean Nolin should not be on your fantasy team. That said, he had his best outing of his young career Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks in 5 1/3 innings against the New York Mets. He struck out six batters and did not factor into the decision. Nolin has now appeared in three games with the big club, and has allowed nine earned runs with 13 strikeouts in 12 1/3 innings. He should stay on the waiver wire.

LHP Sean Nolin, designated for assignment by the A's on Feb. 12, was claimed off waivers by the Brewers on Monday. Nolin, 26, went 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA in six starts for Oakland last year. In 14 games (12 starts) for Triple-A Nashville, he was 2-2 with a 2.66 ERA.

Nolin allowed three runs on six hits and a walk across five innings in a no-decision against the Mariners on Saturday. He struck out two.
Nolin has been making some spot starts here at the end of the year to see what he can do, and it's not a whole lot. In six starts, Nolin has a 5.28 ERA and 1.62 WHIP across 29 innings while striking out just 15 batters. It will be tough for Nolin to crack a rotation next season, but he could be a lefty specialist for a team who needs some bullpen depth.

Nolin was not sharp on Sunday, giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk in just 2.1 innings of work against the Giants.
That's now back-to-back miserable starts for the young lefty --- he gave up five runs on seven hits through five innings last time out against the Rangers. Through five starts, Nolin is now posting a 5.25 ERA and 1.67 WHIP, with a disappointing 13:11 K:BB to boot. With the season almost to a close, he should get one final turn in the rotation Friday against the Mariners.

Nolin allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings in a no decision Tuesday against Texas. He struck out two.
Nolin gave up nine fly balls and eventually paid for it as Mitch Moreland knocked a two-run home run off him in the sixth inning and finished his bid for a quality start. It was his worst start of his young Athletics career, as both five runs and seven hits marked the most Nolin has allowed in four starts for Oakland. Nolin's 12:9 K:BB in 21.2 innings leaves a lot to be desired, and his ERA is up to 4.57.

Nolin took a no-decision on Thursday against the White Sox, surrendering five hits, two earned runs and three walks in five innings.
Nolin turned in another solid effort in his third start since his Sept. 4 call-up from Triple-A Nashville. The young southpaw has given up three runs or less in all three appearances, with control being his most visible weakness to this point. Nolin has surrendered 8 walks in 16.2 innings pitched for a robust 4.44 BB/9 rate, a number well above his 2.99 metric in the same category over 485.2 minor-league frames. Nolin figures to receive at least two more starts to further his development before the 2015 campaign concludes.
Sun Sep 6 201520:39A's manager Bob Melvin said Nolin will get another start
A's manager Bob Melvin said Nolin will get another start, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.
Filling in for Chris Bassitt (shoulder fatigue), Nolin gave up three runs on five hits and three walks, with just one strikeout over six innings in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Mariners. Bassitt's issue isn't believed to be serious, but the A's have no incentive to push things with a player who may be in the rotation next year. Nolin had a nice season at the Triple-A level for a second straight year, but his strikeout numbers were again mediocre, and he's had a tough time staying healthy.
Fri Sep 4 201521:44Sean Nolin: Will Start Sunday
Nolin will start Sunday's game against the Mariners, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.
Shoulder fatigue will keep Chris Bassitt out for another turn and afford Nolin a starting opportunity in his A's debut. Nolin, 25, posted a 2.66 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 38:19 K:BB in 47.1 innings with Triple-A Nashville this season after coming over from Toronto in the Josh Donaldson trade. He suffered a groin injury early in spring training and did not pitch for Nashville until mid-May, and then later missed time with a shoulder issue.
Fri Sep 4 201516:48Nolin recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Friday
Nolin was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Friday.
The A's have not yet announced how or when Nolin will be deployed, but he could certainly be an option to start Monday's game against the Astros in place of Chris Bassitt, who is dealing with general soreness. He tossed 4.2 shutout innings and allowed just one hit and zero walks while striking out six in his last start for Nashville, throwing 76 total pitches. Nolin is the better of the two pitchers the A's got back from Toronto in the Josh Donaldson trade this offseason and he has posted a 2.66 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 47.1 innings in the Pacific Coast League this season.

Nolin (shoulder) was activated from the minor league disabled list on Aug. 15.
He pitched two shutout innings following his activation, and could now be primed to join the big league rotation in September. Nolin's 2015 season may not amount to much due to some untimely injuries, but he will be a rotation candidate in spring training next season and has the ceiling of a No. 3 starter long term.

Nolin has been on the minor league disabled list since July 2 with a left shoulder injury, Athletics Farm's Bill Moriarity reports.
Were Nolin healthy, he would probably be the player called upon to take Jesse Hahn's spot in the rotation after Hahn landed on the DL with a forearm injury. Instead, Chris Bassitt will get that honor, starting July 25 against the Giants. Nolin had a 2.67 ERA in 33.2 innings at Triple-A prior to his injury, but he is running out of time to get healthy and build up his workload to the point where he could be a useful fantasy option in 2015.

Nolin has given up one run on seven hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts in three starts (9.2 innings) with Triple-A Nashville.
Since coming off the DL he has been kept on a pretty strict pitch count with the Sounds. In his last outing he pitched four shutout innings and got to 60 pitches (41 strikes). He should continue to ramp up his workload and could join the Athletics' rotation sometime in June.

Nolin (groin) was activated from the DL and optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Friday.
While Nolin appears to be over his latest groin injury, he will have to bide his time in Nashville until there's an opening in the major league rotation. The 25-year-old lefty tossed six scoreless innings with three hits and a 6:2 K:BB in three rehab appearances with Nashville.

Nolin (groin) threw two scoreless innings in his second rehab outing with Triple-A Nashville on Saturday and will get the start for the Sounds in his next appearance, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.
With Jarrod Parker and A.J. Griffin experiencing setbacks in their recoveries from Tommy John surgery, Nolin figures to be next in line when the A's need to add a pitcher to the starting rotation. Nolin is the better of the two pitchers the A's received from Toronto in the Josh Donaldson trade (Kendall Graveman being the other). He does not have top-of-the rotation stuff, but he is good enough to hold his own as a No. 4 starter, especially pitching half his games in Oakland.

Nolin threw 35 pitches over two innings in an extended spring training outing Monday, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.
Manager Doug Melvin said Nolin's fastball reached 89 miles per hour during the session, while the left-hander was able to mix in all his pitches. He could be ready to begin a rehab assignment with one of the Athletics' lower-level affiliates within the next week before ultimately claiming a spot in the rotation for Triple-A Nashville.
Fri Apr 10 201520:51Nolin (groin) will throw to live hitters Saturday morning
Nolin (groin) will throw to live hitters Saturday morning, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
Another groin strain forced Nolin out of action at the beginning of spring training, but he's shown enough in regular bullpen sessions for the team to clear him for live batting practice. Once Nolin is deemed game-ready, he will likely start off in extended spring training and eventually work his way up to Triple-A Nashville.
