Rearick had his contract selected by the Padres on Friday and will join the big league bullpen in the short term, the Union-Tribune's Dennis Lin reports.
Ian Kennedy (hamstring) was placed on the DL and Odrisamer Despaigne moved from the bullpen to take Kennedy's rotation spot. Rearick held left-handed hitters to a .136 average at Triple-A El Paso last season, and his role with the Padres will be to come in and get outs against southpaws in the middle innings.

He'll head down to minor league camp and likely start the season at Triple-A El Paso.
