Wed Sep 1 202111:24Chase Anderson Joins Rangers On Minor League Deal
The Texas Rangers have reached an agreement on a minor league deal with starting pitcher Chase Anderson. He was recently released by the Philadelphia Phillies, but has already found a new home. It's uncertain whether or not Anderson will get a chance with the MLB roster down the stretch. The 33-year-old is posting a 6.75 ERA over nine starts and five relief appearances this season. There's obviously not fantasy value here, but possibly Anderson can be quality depth for Texas.

Sat Aug 7 202113:31Chase Anderson Placed On 10-Day IL Saturday
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Chase Anderson (triceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with a triceps issue, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic. There's no word on what the injury is specifically or how long it could keep him sidelined, but Gelb reports that the team is likely to skip his turn through the rotation thanks to their off-day on Monday, but they will need a starter for the following Saturday. His absence shouldn't impact too many teams though, as he was 2-4 with a 6.75 ERA, 1.479 WHIP and 16.3 percent strikeout rate this season. He should remain on the waiver wire in all formats.

Thu Aug 5 202109:47Chase Anderson Allows Three Homers In Start Versus Nats
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Chase Anderson allowed three runs across four innings in a no-decision versus the Nationals on Wednesday. Anderson only allowed three hits, unfortunately, all three were home runs as the right-hander's ERA rose to an unsightly 6.75. The 33-year-old journeyman strikes almost no one out as evidenced by his 16% strikeout rate and he's unlikely to pitch deep into games as Philly seems content to pair Anderson with former starter Matt Moore as a piggyback duo for the fifth starter spot. Anderson has little use in fantasy.

Wed May 12 202101:46Bieber extends strikeout record, pitching Indians past Cubs
CLEVELAND (AP) — Shane Bieber pitched out of some early trouble before extending his strikeout record and César Hernández hit a two-run homer, sending the Cleveland Indians to a 3-2 win over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night. Bieber (4-2) struck out eight and has now fanned at least that many in 20 consecutive starts, a major league mark he builds on every time out. The right-hander’s streak was in jeopardy, but he got Nick Martini for strikeout No. 8 in the seventh. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner wasn’t as sharp as usual and needed a career-high 121 pitches to go 6 2/3 innings. James Karinchak finished the seventh for Bieber and worked the eighth. Emmanuel Clase gave up two singles in the ninth, but got Matt Duffy to bounce into a game-ending double play for his seventh save. Hernández homered in the fifth off Adbert Alzolay (1-3), who matched Bieber for six innings. ASTROS 5, ANGELS 1 HOUSTON (AP) — Shohei Ohtani struck out 10 in an impressive duel with Lance McCull... Fri Apr 30 202123:23Phils top Mets 2-1 in bench-clearing, trash-talking opener
Phillies reliever José Alvarado thumped his glove and gestured at Dominic Smith after a strikeout ended a rally. Smith pulled off his helmet and the Mets left fielder seemed ready to fight back against the jabbering pitcher until both teams spilled out of the dugout and broke up the dust up before punches were thrown. Miguel Castro responded with a pair of inside heaters that had Phillies slugger Rhys Hoskins momentarily steamed. The Mets and Phillies turned the eighth inning into a bench-emptying, trash-talking, finger-pointing commotion that spiced up a routine game -- and could ignite more sparks this weekend -- in the Phillies’ 2-1 win on Friday night. “He made a big pitch, he got me out and he wanted to express his emotions,” Smith said. Mets manager Luis Rojas said Alvarado — who hit Michael Conforto and riled up Smith and the Mets with gestures earlier this month — was to blame. “You could tell that it was instigating. he was trying to get his attention, trying to ... Fri Apr 30 202122:53Phils top Mets 2-1 in bench-clearing, trash-talking opener
The Mets and Phillies turned the eighth inning into a bench-emptying, trash-talking, finger-pointing commotion that spiced up a routine game -- and could ignite more sparks this weekend -- in the Phillies’ 2-1 win on Friday night. The benches cleared in the eighth inning when Phillies reliever José Alvarado jawed at Dominic Smith after he struck him out to end a rally. Alvarado -- who riled up the Mets with gestures earlier this month -- mixed it up with New York but nothing came of the heated words. Mets reliever Miguel Castro then chased Rhys Hoskins down the line in the bottom of the inning and the benches again emptied. The fireworks fizzled faster than a Mets’ rally: New York has scored an MLB-low 58 runs, including two or fewer in nine of 20 games this season. Sam Coonrod worked a scoreless ninth for his first save. Chase Anderson swung and missed at a passed ball on a third strike that let two runs score, and he tossed five solid innings to lead the Phillies. Odúbel Herr... [More]
Thu Apr 29 202120:52LEADING OFF: Bumgarner back on mound; Bieber-Keuchel matchup
A look at what’s happening around the majors today: ___ Arizona LHP Madison Bumgarner (2-2, 6.31) starts against Colorado in his first appearance since pitching a seven-inning no-hitter against Atlanta last Sunday, a game that Major League Baseball does not consider to be a no-hitter. MLB’s eight-man committee on statistical accuracy decided in 1991 that a no-hitter was a game of nine or more innings that ended with no hits. Bumgarner was pitching in a second game of a doubleheader, a game shortened to seven innings under pandemic rules. RHP Jon Gray (3-1, 2.54 ERA) starts for the Rockies. ___ Cleveland RHP Shane Bieber (2-2, 2.48), the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, starts in Chicago against White Sox LHP Dallas Keuchel (1-0, 4.32), the 2015 AL Cy Young winner for Houston. ___ New York Yankees right-hander RHP Gerrit Cole (3-1, 1.71 ERA), who is 5-1 with a 2.23 ERA against Detroit, starts Friday’s homestand opener against Detroit, the first team not from the East to play at... Mon Apr 26 202100:41Bumgarner has 7-inning no-hitter, doesn't count in records
ATLANTA (AP) — Madison Bumgarner threw a seven-inning no-hitter, an achievement that won’t count in the Major League Baseball record book but completed a dominant day of Arizona Diamondbacks pitching for a 7-0 win over the Atlanta Braves and a doubleheader sweep Sunday. Bumgarner (2-2) struck out seven and walked none. The only Braves batter who reached base against him came on shortstop Nick Ahmed’s throwing error in the second inning. Officially, Bumgarner’s gem won’t count in the list of no-hitters. MLB’s eight-man committee on statistical accuracy decided in 1991 that a no-hitter was a game of nine or more innings that ended with no hits. In the opener, Zac Gallen (1-0) pitched a one-hitter, allowing Freddie Freeman’s sharp single to right-center field with one out in the sixth of a 5-0 win. This was the first time a team pitched two complete-game shutouts in a doubleheader since Boston’s Reggie Cleveland and Don Aase at Toronto on Sept. 5 1977 Arizona has won six o... [More]

Tue Apr 20 202101:39Red Sox beat Giolito, White Sox 11-4 on Patriots' Day
BOSTON (AP) — Kiké Hernández led off with a replay-aided home run and Bobby Dalbec worked a 14-pitch walk in a six-run first inning against Lucas Giolito, helping the Red Sox beat the Chicago White Sox 11-4 on Monday in the first Patriots’ Day game played apart from the Boston Marathon. The Marathon was moved to Oct. 11 because of Massachusetts limits on crowds during the novel coronavirus pandemic. The Patriots Day game, with a start shortly after 11 a.m., has been played by the Red Sox since 1959. It drew a limited crowd of 4,738. Giolito (1-1) was removed with two on and no outs in the second. He allowed eight runs — seven earned — and eight hits as his ERA more than doubled from 2.55 to 5.79. Nathan Eovaldi (3-1) matched his career-high with 10 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and nine hits with no walks.
