RHP Jorge Rondon returned to the majors after the Pirates selected his contract Saturday. Rondon, 28, was 3-1 with a 1.91 ERA in 24 relief appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis. He appeared in 11 games in parts of the past two seasons with St. Louis, Colorado and Baltimore.

Rondon, 27, went a combined 0-1 with a 13.19 ERA in 10 relief appearances for the Rockies and the Orioles this year. Baltimore claimed him off waivers from Colorado on May 10.

Rondon was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.

As expected, Rondon will return to Baltimore after spending a week at Triple-A. He's already had three major league stints this season, but he's unlikely to provide much more than bullpen depth as the Orioles chase a playoff spot.

Claimed off waivers in May, the 27-year-old Rondon owns a 2.42 ERA, 7.6 K/9 and 2.8 BB/0 over 52 innings (29 games) for Triple-A Norfolk. He isn't much of a prospect and will likely be used in medium or low-leverage situations.

Rondon has made three appearances in the majors this season, and was deemed expendable when a roster spot was needed for Monday's spot start. Look for the Orioles to turn back to Rondon should the need for bullpen help arise down the road.

Rondon was shelled for 10 runs in two relief appearances for the Rockies, which resulted in him being designated for assignment. He'll now get another chance with the Orioles at the Triple-A level. Rondon started the season strong at Triple-A Albuquerque, allowing just one earned run over five relief appearances. The right-hander will have to mirror that success to get another chance in the majors.

Rondon received a chance at a spot in the bullpen following a superb start to his season in Triple-A. However, his two outings with the Rockies were too much to overcome, allowing 10 runs on eight hits and three walks over just one inning.

Rondon was blown up for eight runs (seven earned) on five hits and two walks while failing to record an out in Friday's 14-3 loss to the Padres.

Rondon gave up three runs over one inning in relief in his only previous appearance with the Rockies this season, so Friday's showing will inflate his ERA to a whopping 90.00 for the season. He'll likely be returned to Triple-A Albuquerque in a matter of days.
