C Willson Contreras continued his hot hitting on Tuesday, going 1-for-4 with a walk. Contreras blasted his 13th homer, a long shot to straightaway center field. On the current road trip, Contreras is 9-for-22 with two homers and seven RBI. Contreras, who has caught the first five games of the road trip, will get a chance to rest on Wednesday.

RHP Carlos Contreras was released by the Reds on Wednesday. Contreras, 25, had no decisions and a 4.82 ERA in 22 relief appearances for Cincinnati last year. Over two seasons with the Reds, he went 0-1 with a 5.51 ERA in 39 appearances.

Contreras was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.

Contreras has appeared in 29 games for the Reds over the last two seasons, struggling to a combined 6.34 REA and 1.71 WHIP across 32.2 innings. The 24-year-old will add depth to the bullpen, but he'll likely be an innings-eater more than anything else.

Contreras was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Friday, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The Reds recalled Jumbo Diaz from Louisville on Friday, so Contreras will head back down to clear room on the 25-man roster. Contreras has struggled to a 6.08 ERA across 13.1 innings at the big league level this season.

Contreras allowed one run over 3.1 innings in his first stint with the Reds this season before being optioned back to Louisville. He has a 4.66 ERA across 19.1 innings at Louisville this season and will rejoin the Reds on Tuesday along with fellow right-hander Donovan Hand.

With the Reds needing to add Raisel Iglesias to make a spot start and waiver addition Ryan Mattheus set to join the team Thursday, Contreras will head back to Louisville for the time being. The 24-year-old Contreras has been very good in 11 appearances between the two levels and will likely get another opportunity with the major league team sooner rather than later.

Contreras has been recalled by the Reds.

He'll replace Homer Bailey (elbow, 15-day DL) on the roster for Monday's game against the Brewers. Contreras may head back to Triple-A Louisville before Thursday's game against Milwaukee when the Reds may opt to bring up a starter from the minors to replace Bailey in the rotation.

Contreras was one of a whopping 10 players called up by the Reds as part of their September roster expansion.

Contreras got sent down after a disastrous series in Colorado, where his ERA skyrocketed up to 6.11. He'll be one of many arms that the Reds will audition in their bullpen over the last month of the season.
