Mon Oct 16 202315:28Trevor May Announces His Retirement
Former Oakland A's relief pitcher Trevor May announced his retirement on his own Twitch livestream on Monday. May was solid for the A's in 2023, recording 21 saves and a 3.28 ERA. The 2008 Phillies fourth-round pick started his major league career as a starter for the Minnesota Twins but settled into a bullpen role soon after. May's big league career was split between the Twins, Mets, and A's. He retires with a 4.24 ERA 33 saves, 66 holds, and a 26.8 K%. Best of luck to Trevor in his post-baseball streaming career!

Fri Sep 29 202300:45Trevor May Keeps Rolling Thursday
Oakland Athletics closer Trevor May picked up his 21st save of the season in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins. May didn't allow a baserunner and struck out one in his inning of work. The veteran reliever is on a very nice run since June, picking up all 21 of his saves while allowing only 11 runs (eight earned) in 34 IP (2.08 ERA). With May not under contract for 2024, his fantasy value remains up in the air. Should he return to Oakland, he would likely not have much competition for the closer role, meaning he would be draftable as a low-end reliever.

Thu Sep 7 202308:16Trevor May Converts His 18th Save Wednesday
Oakland Athletics right-hander Trevor May was asked to pitch the ninth inning of the 5-2 win against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. He allowed one hit, but that was all as he earned his 18th save of the season. May now owns a 3.89 ERA (5.27 FIP), 1.50 WHIP, 18.6% strikeout rate, and 15.8% walk rate through 42 games this season. The 33-year-old might lead the A's bullpen, but those are hard numbers to roster in standard 12-team formats, even with his occasional save. Fantasy managers can likely find better relief help on the waiver wire.

Wed Aug 23 202308:12Trevor May Picks Up Tuesday's Save
Oakland Athletics right-hander Trevor May recorded his 13th save of the season on Tuesday when his club defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-4. The 33-year-old completed one inning of work, striking out one and allowing no baserunners. May hasn't been the most dominant reliever in 2023, posting a 4.37 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, and 18.2% strikeout rate to go along with a 16.4% walk rate. Despite leading the A's bullpen, the nine-year veteran isn't very valuable in standard leagues with his lackluster numbers and rare save opportunities.

Sun Aug 13 202319:57Trevor May Struggles Versus Nationals
Oakland Athletics right-hander Trevor May was given the ball with a four-run lead during Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals. The right-hander proceeded to allow five runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks. It didn't help that the defense only made mistakes as well, but May wasn't helping himself on the mound. The 33-year-old has been fairly solid with 12 saves on the season. However, the A's aren't in the playoff race, so it wouldn't be shocking if they decide to give some young pitchers a chance in the closer role. For now, fantasy managers who have May rostered can continue using him, but don't be surprised if they decide to shake it up.

Mon Aug 7 202300:44Trevor May Notches 11th Save
Oakland Athletics right-handed pitcher Trevor May continued his nice run on Sunday, picking up the save in an 8-6 win over the San Francisco Giants. May didn't allow a baserunner and had zero punchouts in his inning of work. That makes six outings in a row where May hasn't allowed a run, and he has lowered his ERA from 5.32 to 4.15 in that stretch. The veteran reliever has taken a stranglehold of the A's closing job and is unlikely to lose it unless he has multiple blow-ups. The A's aren't exactly a powerhouse, so don't expect huge save totals, but May should be rostered in any standard or deeper leagues where saves matter.

Wed Jul 5 202308:05Trevor May Picks Up Tuesday's Save
Oakland Athletics reliever Trevor May closed out Tuesday's 1-0 extra-inning win over the Detroit Tigers. He went one inning, allowing no hits and one walk while striking out one to earn his sixth save of the season. May's numbers aren't pretty, as he's sporting a 5.16 ERA, 1.72 WHIP, and 17.6% strikeout rate across 22 2/3 innings. But since May 1, the 33-year-old owns a 2.70 ERA and all of his saves have come after the start of June. May can still be left on the waiver wire in standard leagues, but fantasy managers in deeper formats targeting saves should think about picking up the former fourth-round pick.

Wed Jun 14 202309:10Trevor May Earns His Third Save On Tuesday
Oakland Athletics right-hander Trevor May closed out Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, going one inning, walking two and striking out one without allowing a run, earning the save. It's his third save of the season, and they've all come since June 7. May now owns an ugly 6.61 ERA, 1.84 WHIP, and 16.5% strikeout rate over 16.1 innings. Despite the meager numbers, though, the 33-year-old is leading the Oakland bullpen and should continue to see the majority of save situations, that is, until Zach Jackson (elbow) returns from the injured list.

Wed Jun 7 202318:41Trevor May Records First Save
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Trevor May was called upon to shut the door versus the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. At first, it wasn't a save situation, but Ken Waldichuk got into some trouble in the ninth. May was asked to come in with two on and a run already in, making it a save situation. He gave up a single to the first batter he faced, but settled down after that. May got the next two batters out, which resulted in his first save of the season. He's allowed one run over his 7 2/3 innings of work so far this season. He appears to be the clear favorite for saves in Oakland.

Tue May 23 202317:53Trevor May Activated From Injured List
Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Trevor May (personal) has been activated from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday. The right-hander has been sidelined since mid-April while working on his mental health. He was able to get through a recent minor league rehab assignment without any issues. The expectation is that May is going to be eased back into action. However, he should be pitching in high-leverage spots once he's back to full speed. In a corresponding move, left-hander Kyle Muller has been optioned to Triple-A with May rejoining the roster.

Wed Apr 19 202316:00Trevor May Lands On 15-Day IL, Dany Jimenez Moved To 60-Day IL
The Oakland Athletics placed relief pitcher Trevor May on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with issues related to anxiety and also transferred reliever Dany Jimenez (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list. Jimenez landed on the IL on Tuesday night and May follows him there a day later after posting a bloated 12.00 ERA with nine walks and eight earned runs allowed in just six innings of work so far this year. There's no timetable for when May might return to Oakland's bullpen, and with Jimenez out for an extended period of time as well, Zach Jackson appears to be the best bet for saves now in the team's bullpen. However, with the A's being one of the worst teams in all of baseball, Jackson probably won't be afforded many save chances.

Mon Mar 27 202318:23Trevor May, Jeurys Familia, Dany Jimenez Options For Saves
Oakland Athletics relief pitchers Trevor May, Jeurys Familia and Dany Jimenez could all be used in save situations this year, according to manager Mark Kotsay. "I think we'll start out with the mindset that they're all options," Kotsay said. Fantasy managers shouldn't be too interested in the A's closing picture unless you're scrounging for save opportunities in AL-only leagues. May has 12 career saves in eight big-league seasons, Familia has 125 career saves in 11 major-league campaigns and Jimenez picked up his first 11 saves for the A's in 2022 in his second MLB season. This could be a straight committee approach, which makes speculating on any of these relievers dicey in fantasy. Jimenez has the most upside.

Fri Dec 16 202217:34Trevor May In Agreement With The A's
The Oakland Athletics and right-hander Trevor May agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal on Friday, according to sources familiar with the deal. The 33-year-old reliever will receive a $1 million signing bonus and can make another $500,000 in performance bonuses. The 2022 season wasn't May's best, as he dealt with arm injuries and finished with a 5.04 ERA (3.87 FIP), a 1.44 WHIP, one save and a 27 percent strikeout rate in only 25 relief innings for the New York Mets. May has been solid as a high-leverage reliever the last five years (3.54 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 12 saves), and he could be the favorite for closing duties to begin the 2023 season in his new digs in Oakland.

Wed May 4 202211:53Trevor May To Be Shut Down At Least Four Weeks
New York Mets relief pitcher Trevor May (shoulder) has been diagnosed with a stress reaction on the lower portion of his humerus bone. The 32-year-old will be shut down for at least four weeks, according to Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo. May had been struggling immensely this year. Prior to receiving an MRI on Wednesday, he told reporters that he didn't feel 100 percent healthy. Over 8.1 innings this season, May has an 8.64 ERA and a 1.92 WHIP. While we don't know his official timeline as of now, we know that he will at least be out until mid-to-late June based on him being shut down for at least a month.

Tue May 3 202208:25Trevor May Slated For An MRI On Tuesday
New York Mets relief pitcher Trevor May (triceps) will undergo an MRI on his right arm on Tuesday. The 32-year-old has been struggling over the first month of the year, pitching to an 8.64 ERA and a 1.92 WHIP over 8.1 innings. On Monday night, he spoke to reporters and stated, "I'm not feeling 100 percent healthy...It's hard to compete when you're just worried if something is going to hurt when you throw, to the point where I'm not very comfortable throwing my best pitches." May first injured his right triceps during an outing on April 11, but he pitched through the injury and avoided a stint on the injured list. It sounds like a move to the injured list is coming this time around, but we should have more specific details soon.

Wed Apr 20 202200:50Trevor May Earns First Save Of Season Tuesday
New York Mets relief pitcher Trevor May picked up his first save of the season in Tuesday's Game 2 3-1 win over the Giants in the second game of a doubleheader. May came on to pitch the ninth inning up by two and tossed a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout to end the game. The team's closer, Edwin Diaz, pitched in Game 1, so May was called upon and got the job done. However, fantasy managers should not expect May to see many save opportunities for the Mets. Furthermore, he hasn't pitched all that well, posting a 4.50 ERA with two strikeouts and a walk over four innings pitched this season.

Tue Apr 12 202216:33Trevor May Diagnosed With Low-Grade Triceps Strain
New York Mets relief pitcher Trevor May (triceps) underwent an MRI on Tuesday. According to the reliever himself, the MRI showed a "very, very low-grade triceps strain." May stated that he is day-to-day at this point and that a stint on the injured list hasn't been discussed. May was removed from Monday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies when the injury first flared up. He's made two appearances so far this year, pitching two innings while allowing four hits, one walk and two earned runs. Seth Lugo and Adam Ottavino are the team's primary setup men in front of closer Edwin Diaz, but May should still be utilized quite a bit as another setup option.

Mon Apr 11 202221:52Trevor May Leaves With Injury On Monday
New York Mets right-hander Trevor May left Monday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies with an apparent injury. May threw a scoreless seventh inning and came back out for the eighth. He walked one batter in the eighth and then appeared to injure himself. He was replaced in the game by Joely Rodriguez, who allowed his inherited runner to score a run that was charged to May. Expect the Mets to update May's status upon the completion of Monday night's game.

Tue Aug 17 202110:51Trevor May Roughed Up On Monday
After a stellar July in which New York Mets relief pitcher Trevor May posted a 2.38 ERA and was called upon to close games for a struggling Edwin Diaz, May has had a brutal August. On Monday, his August slide continued against the San Francisco Giants. In one inning of work, May allowed three earned runs on three hits, including two home runs, and one walk. May has now posted an unsightly 11.81 ERA and a 1.88 WHIP over six games in August (5 1/3 innings pitched). Though May remains a fantasy option in leagues that reward holds, fantasy managers may wish to fade him until he can show signs of breaking out of his recent slump. On the season, May owns a 4.17 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and has posted 65 strikeouts in 45 1/3 IP with four saves and 10 holds.
