CF Yorman Rodriguez was sent on a rehab assignment to Dayton. The Reds had transferred Rodriguez from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain on May 22.

Rodriguez was placed on the minor league disabled list on July 28 with a left calf strain.

He was almost certainly going to be a September call-up this season, but that may not happen now that he is on the DL. It seems like he has been around forever, but Rodriguez is still just 23, and could get a shot to make the big league roster out of camp in 2016.

Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Friday to make roster room for the returning Raisel Iglesias.

Rodriguez was called up Monday to serve as an extra bench bat, but will go back down to Louisville without seeing the field or batters box. The 22-year-old could still make it back to the majors in a bench role for 2015, but that will require more roster shifts.

Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Monday.

Rodriguez saw action with the Reds in 11 games during the 2014 season, going 6-for-27 with two RBI and three runs scored. He's spent all of 2015 with Triple-A Louisville to this point, batting .272/.310/.432 with nine home runs and 40 RBI in 80 games. He'll provide some depth in the outfield, but probably won't see consistent playing time in the majors.

Rodriguez had a pinch-hit single Sunday for his first major league hit.

Since getting called up on September 1st, Rodriguez had seen action in just one other game. Now that the Reds are one game from elimination in the NL Central, perhaps they'll spend more time looking at Rodriguez, who has just one more option year remaining.

The Reds promoted Rodriguez from Double-A Pensacola on Monday.

This was hinted at by the club a couple of days ago. Rodriguez's stats at Pensacola don't jump off the page, but the team has some urgency to see him in the big leagues, as he's already in his second year on the 40-man roster.

There's a chance that Rodriguez could get called up when the Reds expand their roster in September. He's hitting .267/.333/.398 with nine homers and a 44:112 K:BB in 435 at-bats at Double-A Pensacola.

The Reds have suggested that they will call up seven-to-nine players, including some that haven't yet been called up this year. That lead to the speculation that Rodriguez, who is on the 40-man roster but has been in Double-A all year, could get the call.

There are some notable names but no surprises among this group. Rodriguez, Stephenson and Lorenzen were all ranked by Baseball America among the team's top-six prospects. It's possible their Stephenson, their top prospect, will make his major league debut sometime this season.
