Athletics acquired LHP Andrew Werner from the Padres in the Tyson Ross deal.
Werner has put up some nice numbers in the minors but is a soft-tossing lefty that posted a 5.58 ERA over eight starts for the Padres in 2012. He'll likely begin 2013 as a long reliever or as a starter back at Triple-A.

Sat Sep 29 201201:48Andrew Werner lousy in loss
Making what was likely his final start of the season, Andrew Werner allowed three runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings of San Diego's loss to the Giants.
Werner struck out two and walked one. A rookie lefty who's just four months shy of his 26th birthday, Werner posted a 4.78 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 33/13 K/BB ratio across 37 1/3 innings in his first MLB go-round. The owner of pedestrian minor-league numbers with a fastball that sits in the high-80s, Werner will likely be far away from the Padres' 25-man roster next Opening Day.

Sun Sep 16 201220:19Andrew Werner gives up five runs to Rockies
Andrew Werner gave up five runs and two homers in five innings Sunday in a no-decision versus the Rockies.
Werner had turned in four straight quality starts for the Padres, but a pair of homers -- one from opposing starter Alex White -- did him in at Petco today. NL-only leaguers should be able to do better than starting him on the road in San Francisco next weekend.
