OF Henry Urrutia was designated for assignment Tuesday to make room on Baltimore's 40-man roster for OF Julio Borbon. Urrutia has limited experience in parts of three seasons with the Orioles as he batted .272 in 94 plate appearances. The Orioles signed him out of Cuba in 2012 and, this season, Urrutia was batting .298 in 48 games with Double-A Bowie after starting this year by batting .245 in 32 games with Triple-A Norfolk. "The needs of the major league club are always a priority," manager Buck Showalter said. "Henry was and still is a good sign and if he clears, who knows? He may reemerge somewhere."

Fri Aug 28 201517:57Urrutia optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday
Urrutia was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.
Urrutia's stint with the big league club lasted just under two weeks, as Dariel Alvarez was promoted in a corresponding roster move. The 28-year-old could be back up to the big leagues after rosters expand Sept. 1.
Sun Aug 23 201511:45Urrutia will pick up start in left field Sunday against Twins
Urrutia will pick up a start in left field Sunday against the Twins, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. It's the eighth time in nine games that he will enter the lineup.
The Orioles have been cycling through a number of corner outfielders this season, and while they've found one regular option since acquiring Gerardo Parra from the Brewers at the trade deadline, the other spot remains a bit in flux. For now at least, however, Urrutia seems to be manager Buck Showalter's preferred choice in left, and for good reason. The Cuban outfielder has batted 8-for-26 (.308) with a homer and six RBI since being promoted from Triple-A Norfolk.

Urrutia went 1-for-4 with his first career home run against the Mets on Wednesday -- a walk-off shot in the bottom of the ninth.
That's about as big a first homer as you can hit. Urrutia's got five RBI in his first five MLB games this year, but the 28-year-old Cuban hasn't been anything more than credible in Triple-A, with a fairly modest .292/.344/.414 line, so don't get your hopes too high over him. Yoenis Cespedes he is not.

Urrutia has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk and will bat eighth in the lineup Saturday against Oakland, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.
Urrutia had been rumored as a potential call-up for Saturday's contest, and the Orioles made the move official by also optioning outfielder Junior Lake. He will serve as Baltimore's designated hitter Saturday against right-hander Chris Bassitt. Urrutia will provide a serviceable left-handed bat for Baltimore, but it's unclear if he'll be able to stick with the big league club for an extended period of time.

The Orioles may call Urrutia up to the club before Friday's game, MASN's Roch Kubatko tweeted.
Urrutia has spent the entire 2015 season at Triple-A, slashing .292/.344/.414 with 10 home runs and 21 doubles. He hit .276 (16-for-58) with the Orioles in 2013. It is doubtful the 28-year-old Urrutia will make much of an impact with the Orioles
Sat Mar 21 201510:42Urrutia optioned to Triple-A
Urrutia has been optioned to Triple-A, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.
Urrutia made a good impression in camp, hitting .320/.379/.520, but he was never likely to make the big-league squad out of camp. The 28-year-old will go back to Triple-A where he was mediocre in 2014 and could be a possibility for the Orioles if he continues what he showed in spring training.

Henry Urrutia will miss the next 6-8 weeks after undergoing sports hernia surgery on Tuesday.
It's a tough break for the Cuban defector. Urrutia was slowed in spring training by shoulder soreness, and now he has this ailment to recover from. It's shaping up as a lost year for the 27-year-old.

Wed Mar 26 201417:05Orioles option Henry Urrutia to AAA Norfolk
Orioles optioned OF Henry Urrutia to Triple-A Norfolk.
Urrutia was slowed this spring by shoulder soreness, but the Orioles are high on his future and should let him work his way into the corner outfield and DH mix at some point this spring. The 27-year-old Cuban hit .347/.406/.506 last year in the minor leagues.

Fri Mar 14 201416:03Henry Urrutia hits first spring homer
Henry Urrutia went 2-for-4 with his first homer Friday as an Orioles split-squad and a Twins split-squad played to a 2-2 tie.
Urrutia's chances of making the Orioles took a big hit with the Nelson Cruz signing. He's also fought some shoulder soreness this spring, but he's hit .333 in 24 at-bats since returning to the lineup. While he'll most likely start the season in Triple-A, he could get a look in left field or at DH later on.

The young Cuban outfielder is trying to win a spot on the Opening Day roster, though the odds of that happening took a huge hit when the Orioles signed Nelson Cruz.

Sat Mar 1 201411:33Henry Urrutia dealing with sore shoulder
Henry Urrutia received treatment on Saturday for a sore throwing shoulder.
He's still able to swing a bat without any issue, it only impacts his ability to throw in the outfield. His fantasy prospects for 2014 took a significant hit when the team signed Nelson Cruz, who is expected to see most of the at-bats as the O's designated hitter in 2014.

Henry Urrutia missed part of Wednesday's workout due to a stomach issue.
He should be back to normal soon enough. Urrutia didn't do much in his first taste of the big leagues, but he could end up with a significant role this season depending on if the Orioles make any more moves.

Sun Jan 19 201409:13Henry Urrutia adds some muscle over winter
Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports that Henry Urrutia "looks jacked" after adding 18 pounds of muscle over the offseason.
Encina says Urrutia "looks entirely different" than the guy he saw in spring training last year. The Cuban defector was also praised by Orioles manager Buck Showalter last week for how dedicated he's been at trying to improve his defense. Urrutia batted a blistering .347/.406/.506 with nine homers and 50 RBI in 81 games between Double- and Triple-A last year before a brief second-half audition with the O's. Baltimore has at-bats available in left field and at DH, so the soon-to-be 27-year-old will be someone to keep an eye on.
