Telis saw action in just five games with the Marlins, going 0-for-8 with a runs scored. He will return to the minors for now, as the Marlins will go with just two catchers again.

Telis' success at the Triple-A level hasn't translated to the majors, with the 24-year-old batting just .182/.250/.182 with two RBI in 11 at-bats in six games with the Rangers. He hasn't had a large sample size with the club in either of his two tastes of the big league, however, so it's quite possible that he'll prove a better value with more consistent playing time. It seems unlikely that will come with the move the Marlins though, as J.T. Realmuto will likely continue in the everyday role while either Telis or Jeff Mathis will serve as the backup.

Telis has played well in Triple-A this season, posting a .291/.327/.404 batting line while collecting five home runs and 25 RBI. He;ll replace Carlos Corporan (thumb) on the 25-man roster, but will likely serve in a backup role behind Robinson Chirinos.

Telis was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.

After making his major league debut in 2014, Telis was viewed as a possible backup option to Robinson Chirinos behind the plate. The Rangers acquired Carlos Corporan in January, who now appears to be in line for that role, so Telis will head back to Triple-A where he posted a slash line of .345/.377/.489 last season. With a strong showing in the minors, the 23-year-old should once again see big league action this year.

Telis is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mariners.

Telis has emerged as the Rangers' preferred option behind the plate while Robinson Chirinos deals with a stiff neck, but he'll be rested Sunday after starting the previous two games. As a result, J.P. Arencibia will be behind the plate, catching for Derek Holland.

Telis will start at catcher for the fifth time in six games Wednesday against the Royals.

It's probably safe to call Telis the No. 1 catcher at this point, with the Rangers content to evaluate their younger options at several positions across the roster. The 23-year-old batted over .300 across two levels this season, and while he doesn't have much pop in his bat, he could still be useful as one-category play in two-catcher leagues.
