C Tomas Telis was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans. Telis, a 25-year-old switch hitter from Venezuela, was batting .238 at New Orleans. It's hard to believe, but Telis has been a pro player for over a decade. The Texas Rangers signed him as a shortstop in 2007and traded him to the Marlins for pitcher Sam Dyson on July 31, 2015. Telis has never had more than 70 at-bats in a big-league season. Yet this is the fourth season in a row that he has gotten the call to the majors. He is a career .227 hitter with a .527 OPS.

C Tomas Telis was optioned Wednesday to Triple-A New Orleans, the precursor for recalling OF Yefri Perez. Telis appeared in a pair of games with the Marlins as a pinch-hitter, going 0-for-2 with a strikeout. He could be back with Miami before season's end when rosters expand to 40 players in September, but with veteran Jeff Mathis around to back up J.T. Realmuto, there was no need for Telis at the moment.

Mon Sep 7 201511:48Telis recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on Monday
Telis was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on Monday, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports.
The Pacific Coast League season is set to come to an end Monday, so the Marlins elected to bring Telis up to give the team a third catcher down the stretch. J.T. Realmuto still seems to be entrenched as the Marlins' everyday backstop, so Telis may be hard pressed to see more than one or two starts a week down the stretch.

Mon Aug 3 201515:29Telis recalled from Triple-A New Orleans
Telis has been recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.
Telis was optioned to Triple-A following Wednesday's trade, but he'll join the big league club to serve as the third catcher behind J.T. Realmuto and Jeff Mathis. The 24-year-old has limited experience at the big league level, having appeared in just six games for the Rangers prior to the trade.
Sat Aug 1 201514:19Telis optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Saturday
Telis was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Saturday.
Telis was moved as part of a trade that sent Sam Dyson back to the Rangers, but the Marlins will stick with J.T. Realmuto and Jeff Mathis behind the plate, pushing Telis back to Triple-A. However, he should be one of the top options for recall if an injury occurs to either of the other two backstops.
Fri Jul 31 201516:38The Rangers traded Telis to Marlins on Friday
The Rangers traded Telis to the Marlins on Friday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
Telis' success at the Triple-A level hasn't translated to the majors, with the 24-year-old batting just .182/.250/.182 with two RBI in 11 at-bats in six games with the Rangers. He hasn't had a large sample size with the club in either of his two tastes of the big league, however, so it's quite possible that he'll prove a better value with more consistent playing time. It seems unlikely that will come with the move the Marlins though, as J.T. Realmuto will likely continue in the everyday role while either Telis or Jeff Mathis will serve as the backup.

Mon Mar 23 201518:17Telis optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday
Telis was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday.
After making his major league debut in 2014, Telis was viewed as a possible backup option to Robinson Chirinos behind the plate. The Rangers acquired Carlos Corporan in January, who now appears to be in line for that role, so Telis will head back to Triple-A where he posted a slash line of .345/.377/.489 last season. With a strong showing in the minors, the 23-year-old should once again see big league action this year.
Sun Sep 7 201413:11Telis out of lineup Sunday against Mariners
Telis is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mariners.
Telis has emerged as the Rangers' preferred option behind the plate while Robinson Chirinos deals with a stiff neck, but he'll be rested Sunday after starting the previous two games. As a result, J.P. Arencibia will be behind the plate, catching for Derek Holland.

Telis will start at catcher for the fifth time in six games Wednesday against the Royals.
It's probably safe to call Telis the No. 1 catcher at this point, with the Rangers content to evaluate their younger options at several positions across the roster. The 23-year-old batted over .300 across two levels this season, and while he doesn't have much pop in his bat, he could still be useful as one-category play in two-catcher leagues.
