He was traded by the Rays to the Mariners on Nov. 5, then dealt from the Mariners to the Orioles on Dec. 2.

The Seattle Mariners and Rays pulled off the first noteworthy trade of the offseason as they completed a six-player deal Thursday that sends infielder/outfielder Brad Miller, first baseman Logan Morrison and pitcher Danny Farquhar to Tampa Bay in exchange for pitchers Nathan Karns and C.J. Miller started games at six positions this year.

He'll work out of a low-leverage role in the Tampa bullpen.

The Rays optioned Riefenhauser to Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The Rays were in need of bullpen reinforcements after using six relievers in Friday's game, so they decided to call up Everett Teaford and send down Riefenhauser, even though he was not one of the pitchers used in Friday's contest. Riefenhauser owns a 9.95 ERA this year, but he has had three stints with the Rays this season, so there's a good chance he will be called up again later this summer.

Riefenhauser was recalled by the Rays on Tuesday.

He has a 7.94 ERA in 5.2 innings with the big league club this year, so he will need to get some quality outings under his belt before he gets trusted with mid-to-high leverage situations.

Riefenhauser was optioned back to Triple-A on Tuesday, the Tampa Tribune's Roger Mooney reports.

He was optioned after giving up two runs in 2.1 innings Tuesday, including a towering home run to Bryce Harper. Riefenhauser will offer organizational bullpen depth going forward.

Riefenhauser has been recalled from Triple-A Durham to the major league club.

Riefenhauser is extremely unlikely to see any kind of high-leverage appearances if the Rays can help it, so don't expect to see him getting a save or significant amount of holds in the coming days.

Riefenhauser returning to the minors was fairly expected, but there's a very good chance he returns to the major league squad in 2015. He won't have much, if any, fantasy impact, but the Rays have recently needed bullpen depth and he's an in-house option, even with his 10.80 ERA in 6.2 career innings.

Although Riefenhauser's two appearances with the Rays didn't go well, he could still easily see the majors again given Tampa Bay's current carousel system of relievers.

He gave up three runs on three hits in his last outing, Apr. 18, and with shoulder inflammation being the ailment, we may not see him for a while. Still, he was not a high-impact arm out of the Rays' bullpen so the fantasy effects will be minimal.

A September call-up last season, Riefenhauser struggled mightily, posting a 1.69 WHIP and 8.44 ERA across seven appearances. He'll join the big league club with Jeff Beliveau (shoulder) headed to the 15-day DL. In two Triple-A appearances this season, Riefenhauser has allowed six hits and three earned runs over 3.0 innings.

The 24-year-old lefty will most likely spend the rest of the campaign pitching in a middle-relief role for the Rays.
