Sun Apr 13 201409:48Jason Bartlett nearing rehab assignment
Jason Bartlett (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Fort Myers this week.
Bartlett will work out with the Gulf Coast League Twins for a few days before officially beginning the rehab assignment. He could remain on the assignment for a while, as the Twins want him to work on his swing. "I need it," said Bartlett. "I felt good coming out of spring and, obviously, when you sit there [on the bench] you lose it. I feel good in the cage, but it's a matter of seeing something. I'm excited to get back out there and start playing every day and see if I can come back up here and help the team."

Jason Bartlett (ankle) will run the bases on Friday.
If Bartlett has no soreness in his left ankle after the running, he could be cleared for a rehab assignment. It's looking like he has a good shot to return from the disabled list when first eligible.

Mon Apr 7 201412:59Twins place Bartlett on the disabled list
Twins placed SS Jason Bartlett on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle.
Bartlett replaced Josh Willingham in Sunday's game after Willingham was hit by a pitch. He reportedly sprained his ankle in the sixth inning, but stayed in the game through eight innings before being replaced by a pinch-hitter. In a corresponding move, the Twins recalled Chris Herrmann from Triple-A Rochester.

Sat Mar 29 201411:08Twins add Bartlett to 40-man roster
Twins purchased the contract of INF Jason Bartlett from Triple-A Rochester.
Bartlett hit just .098 (4-for-41) with a 9/3 K/BB ratio during Grapefruit League play and hasn't played in the majors since 2012, but he still managed to win a spot on the Opening Day roster. He'll serve as a backup infielder.

Thu Mar 27 201415:45Bartlett earns spot on Twins' OD roster
Jason Bartlett will be on the Twins' Opening Day roster.
Bartlett is 3-for-35 (.086) this spring in Grapefruit League play and hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2012, but the Twins will carry him north for some odd reason. He has no fantasy relevance.

Mon Mar 24 201412:43Bartlett and Twins push back opt-out date
Jason Bartlett and the Twins have agreed to push back his opt-out date to the end of this week.
Bartlett could have opted out on Tuesday morning, but he's just 3-for-34 (.088) in the Grapefruit League and wouldn't have had much luck on the open market. The Twins will give him another few days to prove himself worthy of a roster spot. But the most likely scenario has him winding up at Triple-A Rochester to open the season.

Wed Mar 19 201416:03Jason Bartlett picks up first hit
Jason Bartlett finally picked up his first hit of the spring against the Cardinals on Wednesday.
He's 1-for-27 as he competes for a utility spot after sitting out last season. He'll probably have to continue his comeback in Triple-A if he wants to make it back to the majors.

Wed Mar 12 201417:16Jason Bartlett still hitless this spring
Jason Bartlett went 0-for-3 against the Pirates on Wednesday and is 0-for-17 this spring.
Bartlett, taking a comeback after missing much of 2012 with a knee injury and sitting out last season, is trying to make the Twins as a utilityman. To put it mildly, it's not looking very good for him right now.

Twins signed SS Jason Bartlett to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Fri Jun 8 201210:24Jason Bartlett likely done with Padres
John Maffei of the North County Times writes that Jason Bartlett "has likely played his last game for the Padres."
Bartlett, who is out with a strained right knee, was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Thursday and can't return until mid-July. The Padres might cut him loose before then, though, as they're wanting to go younger at shortstop. Bartlett is making $5.5 million this season, and the Padres have a $5.5 million option on him for 2013 that contains a $1.5 million buyout.

Fri May 18 201209:59Jason Bartlett unlikely to get job back
Dan Hayes of the North County Times writes that the Padres have "made it clear the shortstop position is (Everth) Cabrera's to win."
Jason Bartlett (knee) was placed on the DL Thursday, and he'll likely slide into a backup role when he returns or possibly follow Orland Hudson to the unemployment line. "It wasn't working here," general manager Josh Byrnes said. "(The move) wasn't motivated by money, it was motivated by trying someone new to see if we can get better performance. Obviously our record is not what we want. This particular move is to see if these guys can give us a shot in the arm. Jason understands these guys are coming up and there's no guarantee of a job waiting on the other side. That's just the way we're set up now."

Fri May 11 201216:54Bartlett scratched Friday with stomach virus
Jason Bartlett was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Phillies due to a stomach virus.
Cameron Maybin was also scratched, so there's evidently something going around the Padres' clubhouse. Andy Parrino will start in his place and bat eighth against right-hander Vance Worley.

Thu Mar 29 201219:40Jason Bartlett hits one over the boards
Jason Bartlett went 2-for-3 with an RBI single and a two-run homer Thursday against the Cubs.
The light-hitting shortstop took Cubs starter Chris Volstad deep in his first at-bats. Bartlett is batting .297 this spring with four extra-base hits. He'll bring some fantasy value to the table this year with his ability to swipe a bag, but he won't do much else.

Sun Jan 1 201216:23Report: Padres to keep both Bartlett + Hudson
Corey Brock of MLB.com reports that the Padres will begin the season with both Jason Bartlett and Orlando Hudson.
The Padres would like to deal either, but both players are unattractive given their contracts. Bartlett will make $5.5 million in 2012, with a $5.5 million option (or $1.5 million buyout) for 2013 that becomes guaranteed if he has 432 plate appearances this season. Hudson is set to earn $5.5 million in 2012, with the team having an $8 million option (or $2 million buyout) for 2013. Bartlett hit .245/.308/.307 with two homers and 23 steals over 554 at-bats for the Padres this past season.

Fri Dec 16 201115:03Teams hesitant to deal for Jason Bartlett
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that teams are hesitant to trade for Padres shortstop Jason Bartlett because his $5.5 million option for 2013 becomes guaranteed if he has 432 plate appearances in 2012.
No surprise that that's a deterrent. The Padres would like to deal either Bartlett or Orlando Hudson, but neither player is particularly attractive given their contracts. Bartlett hit .245/.308/.307 with two homers and 23 steals over 554 at-bats for the Padres this past season.

Sun Nov 20 201115:41Bartlett likelier to be dealt than Hudson
Dan Hayes of the North County Times considers it more likely that the Padres will trade Jason Bartlett than Orlando Hudson.
They'd probably prefer to deal Hudson, but his contract makes it difficult and there figures to be a bigger market for Bartlett given the lack of quality shortstops available. Bartlett will make $5.5 million next season, with the Padres having a $5.5 million option (or $1.5 million buyout) for 2013. Hudson is set to earn $5.5 million in 2012, with the team having an $8 million option (or $2 million buyout) for 2013.
