A spot on the 40-man roster was needed for Jonathan Broxton and it was Hatley who got the bump. The 27-year-old has managed a 2.15 ERA in 46 innings with Triple-A Memphis this season, but his 30:18 K:BB does not bode well for his chances of sustaining that success -- his FIP is nearly double his ERA.

Hatley was optioned back to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.
Hatley made two appearances for St. Louis after being called up on June 30, most recently pitching one-third of an inning in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cubs. He'll head back to Triple-A, where he holds a 1.39 ERA in 23 appearances this season.
