Reyes was released by the Braves on Wednesday.

The Braves' added Reyes to their 40-man roster a couple years ago to protect him from the Rule 5 draft, but his production tailed off after his promotion to Triple-A and an arrest earlier this year effectively removed him from the team's future plans. Reyes' future in professional baseball is uncertain.

Reyes was placed on the restricted list Wednesday after being arrested on kidnapping and rape charges last weekend, MiLB.com's Ashley Marshall reports.

Reyes has a court appearance scheduled in Columbus, Ohio on Jun. 2 and it seems unlikely that the Braves will activate Reyes unless the legal matter is dropped or he is found to be innocent of the charges. A 24-year-old shortstop playing for Triple-A Gwinnett, Reyes is hitting just .216/.258/.279 in 111 at-bats, and is at best a fringe fantasy prospect.
