INF/OF Jake Elmore joined the Brewers on Tuesday after his contract was selected from Triple-A Colorado Springs, where he was batting. .320 with two home runs, 19 RBIs and a .428 OBP in 57 games. Elmore can play all eight defensive positions -- as well as pitch -- giving Milwaukee coverage and a right-handed bat on its four-man bench. In 138 MLB games with four different teams, Elmore is a .215 career hitter.

UT Jake Elmore had his contract selected from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Elmore can play all eight positions and was batting .320 this season.

Elmore has been demoted to Triple-A Durham, reports Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

Elmore's played six positions for the Rays this year -- first, second, third, short, left field and pitcher -- but he hasn't hit very well, with just a .206 average and two homers in 50 games. With Asdrubal Cabrera coming back from the disabled list, Elmore was the natural casualty.

Elmore is out of Tampa Bay's lineup for Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports.

When James Loney returned from the DL, Elmore was pushed into a utility infielder role for the Rays and received starts all over the infield, but not enough to think of him as an everyday player. With Asdrubal Cabrera now down to the DL, Elmore figures to be the starting shortstop until his return. The 28-year-old has received the last two starts there, but is now likely resting while Tim Beckham covers it.

Elmore is out of the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Though he managed to crack his second homer of the season in Saturday's win, Elmore will find himself on the pine for the second time in three games, as manager Kevin Cash opts to give Marc Krauss another run at first base. As a left-handed hitter, it's possible that Krauss ultimately ends up settling into a larger portion of platoon duties at first base until James Loney (finger) returns, which could undermine the right-handed Elmore's productivity.

Elmore will assume the leadoff spot and play third base Sunday against the Mariners, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Elmore's versatility has allowed him to enter the lineup each of the past six games, with the first four coming at first base and the last two at third base. Evan Longoria (wrist) is expected to return to the lineup and take back hot-corner duties for Tuesday's series opener against the Angels, but Elmore should remain the Rays' top choice for at-bats at first base while James Loney (finger) remains on the DL. Elmore is batting .280 with a homer and 10 RBI over 52 plate appearances with the Rays on the season.

The Rays were initially going with Logan Forsythe at first to fill in for James Loney, but the Tampa Bay Times reports that they wanted him back at second to pair with Asdrubal Cabrera in the middle infield. That has led to Elmore, a career .235/.298/.323 hitter who has played mostly middle infield in his career, to get multiple starts at first. Given that's clearly not an ideal replacement for Loney, another move from Tampa Bay could pop out of the woodwork.

Elmore was recalled to fill an empty roster spot, and he'll join Tim Beckham, who was also recalled Monday, in the lineup against Seattle. Elmore will man left field and bat sixth.

A spot on the 40-man roster opened up for Elmore as reliever Jeff Beliveau was transferred to the 60-day disabled list with a shoulder injury. With Ryan Brett also headed to the DL with a shoulder injury, Elmore will likely serve as a utility infield option.

Elmore signed a minor-league deal with the Rays on Monday, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports.

The deal includes an invite to spring training, although the Rays have a few middle infield options with more upside than Elmore at this point. Elmore has a .221/.288/.291 slash line in 221 career plate appearances, so he can be largely ignored in fantasy leagues, regardless of whether or not he breaks camp with the Rays.

Elmore has elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Pirates.

He'll look to latch on elsewhere, likely with a minor league deal and a spring training invite in the coming weeks.

Elmore was designated for assignment Tuesday, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The move will allow Pittsburgh to add Jung Ho Kang to the 40-man roster. Elmore, who was claimed off waivers, in November, hit .281 with 12 steals in Triple-A last season but played in only five major league games. He'll look to make a favorable impression during spring training in hopes of winning a spot on the Opening Day 40-man roster.

Elmore had success last season in Triple-A ball, hitting .281/.376/.345 with 12 steals and more walks than strikeouts. He hasn't had as much luck in his brief majors stints, hitting just .182 in five games with the Reds last year. He's on the 40-man roster with the Pirates, so he'll have a shot to crack the big league roster in spring training.
