Galvez signed a minor league contract with the Yankees, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Galvez hit .280/.354/.449 with 10 homers in 103 games with the Padres' Triple-A El Paso affiliate as a 23-year-old in 2014, but it wasn't enough to earn an invite to attend spring training with the Yankees. He had posted double-digit steals in each of his previous five seasons but didn't come close in 2014, getting caught five times in eight attempts.

Galvez impressed this spring, batting .371 (13-for-35) with one homer, four RBI, two stolen bases and a .932 OPS. The 21-year-old middle infielder sprained his ankle on Thursday, but the severity of the injury isn't yet known.

Padres' minor league infielder Jonathan Galvez was flagged for a random DNA test in his native Dominican Republic.
Galvez passed and is currently awaiting a travel visa. The Padres expect him to arrive in camp in the middle of next week. The 21-year-old middle infielder batted .291/.335/.465 with 13 homers, 86 RBI, 37 stolen bases and an .820 OPS over 128 games with High-A Lake Elsinore last season.
