The Mariners acquired Wieland on Jan. 12 from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade for minor league INF Erick Mejia. Wieland made two starts for the Dodgers last season.

The 25-year-old made two starts for the Dodgers last season and give up eight runs and 10 hits in 8 2/3 innings. He has pitched in 11 career major league games and has a 1-5 record with a 5.85 ERA. In 22 appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City in 2015, Wieland posted a 10-5 record with a 4.59 ERA.

Wieland (0-1) took a no-decision Wednesday night, giving up two earned runs over four hits and a walk while striking out two in a 3-2 loss to the Angels.

Wieland pitched reasonably well on short notice, receiving a spot start in place of Mat Latos. Having thrown 72 pitches on the night, Wieland gave up runs on a double in the second inning and sacrifice fly in the third. Wieland's short-term future in the rotation will depend on the severity of Latos' injury.

Wieland will start Wednesday against the Angels in place of Mat Latos, who was scratched with a sore neck.

Wednesday's start will be Wieland's second appearance for the Dodgers this season. He gave up six earned runs in 4.2 innings in his last big league outing, so it should go without saying that the Dodgers will be hoping he can improve upon that performance Wednesday night.

Wieland was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Aside from one spot start very early in the season, Wieland has spent the entire year at Oklahoma City, turning in a lackluster 4.59 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 113.2 innings. Look for the right-hander to take on a mop-up role for the division-leading Dodgers over the final month.

Wieland has a 5.30 ERA for Triple-A Oklahoma City and hitters are batting .318 against him.

Wieland is buried on the Dodgers' depth chart and will likely be looking at a minor league contract this winter.

Wieland is expected to be called up ahead of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Rockies to serve as the Dodgers' 26th man, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports.

It's not clear at this juncture if Wieland will start Game 2 of the doubleheader or simply serve as the long man out of the bullpen. If the Dodgers opt to use David Huff in relief of Zack Greinke during Monday's series opener, Wieland would likely be given the spot start for Tuesday's nightcap, which would normally be a more intriguing role for fantasy purposes. However, with a start at Coors Field is hardly a favorable environment for success, and with a demotion back to Triple-A expected to come immediately after the doubleheader, it's difficult to recommend Wieland as even a speculative pickup.

Wieland was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Bill Shaikin of the LA Times reports.

Wieland was called up for a spot start Wednesday, and he will head back to Oklahoma City for the time being. Though he lasted just 4.2 innings in Wednesday's game, he will be an option next time the Dodgers need to bring up a starter.

Wieland surrendered six runs on six hits, walking four and striking out two over 4.2 innings on Wednesday.

The call up didn't go as the youngster planned as he gave up five runs in the first inning, including a pair of two-run home runs by Scooter Gennett and Adam Lind. Wieland is now 0-1 with a 11.57 ERA after one game and we wouldn't recommend him in any fantasy format as of now.

Wieland was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

The move is all but a formality, as the team announced earlier in the week that Wieland would get the start in Wednesday's game against Milwaukee. The 25-year-old has given up eight runs on 17 hits through 20.0 Triple-A innings this season.

Wieland said he will start Wednesday against the Brewers, not Thursday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

While Wieland will effectively take the rotation spot vacated by Scott Baker, the Dodgers will keep Wieland on regular rest and give Carlos Frias one additional day between starts. The 25-year-old Wieland gave up eight earned runs on 17 hits and two walks with 22 strikeouts in 20 innings with Triple-A Oklahoma City to start the year.

Wieland will get the start for the Dodgers on Thursday in Milwaukee, the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett reports.

He has gone exactly five innings in all four of his starts for Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, but has not thrown more than 82 pitches in any one outing. Of the many candidates the Dodgers have experimented with in the rotation, Wieland may have the most potential to miss bats, as he has 22 strikeouts and just two walks in 20 innings this season. While he may not stay in the rotation for long, there's a chance he could hold a spot all year if he really impresses. He is worth a flier in deep mixed leagues and most NL-only leagues.

Wieland will in fact not get the spot start Sunday for the Dodgers as he is taking the ball Saturday for Triple-A Oklahoma City, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.

While Wieland makes more sense on paper, Scott Baker appears to be the likely candidate to get the spot start Sunday. Given how well Wieland has pitched in the early going, he will probably find a way to get at least one start for the Dodgers at some point this season, but the doesn't quite have the pedigree to be a stash candidate in shallower formats.
