Burns was sent to minor league camp on Thursday, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports.
Burns pitched 3.2 innings in the spring across five appearances, striking out four while giving up two hits, two walks, two earned runs and hitting two batters. He pitched for three different teams, Double-A Montgomery, a Tampa affiliate, Triple-A Durham, a Tampa affiliate and Triple-A Round Rock, a Rangers affiliate. Across those three teams, he compiled a 4.95 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP, with 58 strikeouts across 63.2 innings. Burns pitched well in Montgomery and Durham, but the wheels came off in Round Rock, where he had a 7.44 ERA and a 1.99 WHIP across 20 appearances. Burns will struggle to crack the major league roster this season and will need to show more consistency in the minors before he has any real fantasy value.
