It's certainly not going to help his chances at winning a bullpen spot. Ramirez was a very effective reliever from 2008-11, compiling a 2.77 ERA. However, the 32-year-old bottomed out last year, spending most of the season in the minors. This is the second straight year he's dealt with visa issues.

Ramirez made six appearances with the Giants last season before being designated for assignment in July. The 32-year-old has struggled in the majors over the past two seasons, but he could be in the mix for a bullpen spot in the spring.

Ramon Ramirez (hamstring) tossed a scoreless inning Wednesday in his second minor league rehab appearance with High-A St. Lucie.
That's better. Ramirez allowed three runs on five hits over one inning in his first appearance on Monday, but he's headed in the right direction. Barring any setbacks with his hamstring, he should rejoin the Mets' bullpen within the next few days.

According to ESPN New York's Adam Rubin, the Mets will not be adding a second left-handed pitcher to the bullpen anytime soon.
The current plan is to use Ramon Ramirez more frequently against left-handed hitters. Ramirez, who was acquired as part of the Angel Pagan deal this offseason, has a 3.93 ERA in 15 appearances with the Mets.
