Matthes was released by the A's on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
In 57 games with the A's Triple-A Nashville affiliate, Matthes hit .233/.294/.358 with two homers and four stolen bases. The 28-year-old has two 20-plus seasons in the minors and figures to latch on with another organization eventually.

Matthes was just optioned to Triple-A by the Rockies last week. The 27-year-old owns a .275/.332/.505 batting line over parts of five seasons in the minors and will serve as organizational depth with his new club.
