Spruill cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday, WEEI's Rob Bradford reports.
Spruill has spent the entire season with Triple-A Pawtucket, posting a 5.40 ERA, 4.00 FIP, 3.9 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 over 53.1 innings, working mostly as a reliever. He isn't much of a prospect, but he'll continue to provide organizational depth as both a starter and reliever.
Fri Jul 3 201517:06Spruill designated for assignment Friday
Spruill was designated for assignment Friday, the Providence Journal's Tim Britton reports.
Spruill had a 5.40 ERA in 53.1 innings at Triple-A this year, making him expendable when the Red Sox wanted to clear room on the 40-man roster. He should pass through waivers and head back to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Thu Mar 26 201509:58Spruill optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday
Spruill was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
Spruill was competing for a back end bullpen role with the Red Sox, but will instead provide organizational depth at the minor league level.
Sat Feb 28 201519:53Spruill will pitch as reliever with Boston
Spruill, who started and relieved in the Diamondbacks organization last season, will pitch as a reliever with Boston, the Providence Journal reports.
Spruill will provide some bullpen depth early on this spring before a likely placement at Triple-A Pawtucket. He experienced a bump in his strikeout rate in shorter stints as a reliever in 2014, but the righty typically attempts to illicit weak contact, throwing a mix of a sinker, slider and curve.
Fri Dec 12 201419:52Spruill traded to Red Sox on Friday
Spruill was traded to the Red Sox on Friday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
Spruill spent most of the 2014 season in Triple-A, posting a 6.04 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in a combination of starts and relief appearances. He doesn't appear to be a likely candidate for the Red Sox's roster at the start of 2015, but could wind up on the roster if at some point if he pitches well.
Tue Dec 9 201412:25Spruill designated for assignment by Diamondbacks on Monday
Spruill was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Monday, Nick Piecoro of AZCentral.com reports.
Spruill's FIP (2.56) was more than a full run lower than his ERA (3.57 ERA) with the big club last season, but the numbers from his larger sample at Triple-A Reno were ugly (6.04 ERA, 1.39 WHIP). With the signing of Yasmany Tomas becoming official, the Diamondbacks needed a roster spot, and Spruill was the casualty. Look for him to wind up back at Reno if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

Spruill picked up his first major league win in relief of a shaky Trevor Cahill on Sunday, throwing three scoreless innings. He allowed one run on one hit and a walk, striking out one.
Spruill has been used in long relief the last two times out. If the Diamondbacks wanted to see what he looked like as a starter, at least he would be pretty stretched out.

Spruill allowed one earned run on five hits and four strikeouts in four innings of work in the Diamondbacks' 5-1 loss to the Giants on Tuesday.
Spruill was recalled from Triple-A Reno before the game. He posted a 7.22 ERA in 11 starts with Reno. In three major league appearances, he has allowed six earned runs in 13.1 innings.
Tue Sep 9 201417:15Spruill recalled from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday
Spruill was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.
Spruill's overall numbers at Reno this season are unsightly to say the least, but he was far better in his 17 relief appearances (3.71 ERA, 29 strikeouts in 26.2 innings) than he was in his 11 starts (7.22 ERA, 1.38 WHIP). He'll get a chance to work out of the major league bullpen over the final weeks of the season, but don't expect the Diamondbacks to entrust Spruill with any meaningful innings.
Thu Jun 26 201416:33Zeke Spruill optioned to Triple-A
Diamondbacks optioned RHP Zeke Spruill to Triple-A Reno.
Spruill was up for a day to help an overtaxed bullpen, allowing two runs over four relief innings in a loss to the Indians Wednesday. He returns to a 6.75 ERA in 57 1/3 innings at Reno.

Sun May 25 201420:06Spruill gives up three runs in loss to Mets
Zeke Spruill struggled in a losing effort against the Mets in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, allowing three runs on 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Friday's rainout pressed Spruill into emergency duty, and at least did his job by keeping the Diamondbacks in the game. He's likely to return to Triple-A Reno afterwards where he will continue to function as organizational rotation depth.

Sat May 24 201414:46Zeke Spruill will start game two on Sunday
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson announced Saturday that Zeke Spruill will start the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Mets.
The 24-year-old owns a 2-1 record, 4.72 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 27/9 K/BB ratio over 34 1/3 innings at Triple-A Reno. He can safely be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Zeke Spruill lasted just three innings in a loss Sunday to the Mets.
It was just his second start after making his rotation debut last week. He gave up one run on six hits and had two walks before exiting. Spruill will be moved back to bullpen once Trevor Cahill returns from the disabled list.

Thu Aug 1 201322:47Zeke Spruill gives up three homers in loss
Zeke Spruill gave up five runs and three homers in four innings to take the loss Thursday against the Rangers.
Spruill was called up before the game, and he'll be sent back down to Triple-A now. If he sees action with the Diamondbacks again this season, it'll probably be as a reliever in September.

Thu Aug 1 201312:43Diamondbacks recall Spruill for Thurs. start
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Zeke Spruill from Triple-A Reno.
Spruill has a nice-looking 2.68 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 104 innings this year in the minor leagues, but that's hiding a troubling 54/36 K/BB ratio. He's not a good fantasy bet for his start Thursday against the Rangers.

Wed Jul 31 201317:53Zeke Spruill to start Thursday against Texas
Zeke Spruill will make a spot start for the Diamondbacks on Thursday against the Rangers.
That would have been Ian Kennedy's spot, but Kennedy was traded Wednesday to the Padres. Spruill, 23, has a 2.68 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 54/36 K/BB ratio in 104 innings this year in the minor leagues. He is a poor fantasy option against the dangerous Texas offense.

Diamondbacks optioned RHP Zeke Spruill to Triple-A Reno.
Spruill was called up last week and posted a 2.08 ERA over four relief appearances. He was acquired from the Braves in the Justin Upton deal and will continue to be stretched out as a starter in the minors.
