Thu Mar 2812:05Anthony Rendon Hitting Leadoff On Opening Day
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon is hitting leadoff for the Angels on Opening Day on Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Corbin Burnes. Manager Ron Washington experimented with using Rendon in the top spot in the batting order in spring training, and now he'll be there for the first game that counts in 2024. The 33-year-old gets the nod to start for the Halos for lack of better options, really. Rendon doesn't have much speed but does possess good plate discipline with an 11 percent career walk rate, so the Angels will be hoping he can set the table for Mike Trout and company. Rendon could boost his counting stats if he sticks at leadoff all year, but he should really only be concerned about staying healthy, as he has played in a total of 148 games in the last three years.

Wed Mar 2017:27Anthony Rendon An Option To Hit Leadoff?
Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington said that he's experimenting with leadoff hitters, which is why third baseman Anthony Rendon was hitting first in the order in the Cactus League game on Wednesday versus the San Francisco Giants. Washington said that the team doesn't have an ideal leadoff hitter, but Rendon does have a knack for getting on base with a career on-base percentage of .367 and 11 percent walk rate in 11 big-league seasons. The 33-year-old has mostly hit third or fourth in his four years with the Angles, which have been marred by injuries. Rendon hasn't played more than 58 games in any of his four years in Anaheim, which has basically made him avoidable in all mixed fantasy leagues going into 2024.

Thu Mar 712:11Anthony Rendon Could Take Live At-Bats Thursday
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (groin) says he is feeling better and could take live at-bats on Thursday. He added he will be playing "soon". "It was more just soreness. We were just trying to prevent anything bigger, especially so early in camp," Rendon said. The veteran's tenure with the Angels has been plagued by injuries since he signed a seven-year, $245 million deal with the team prior to the 2020 season. He has played a total of just 200 games across four years (including the shortened 2020 season) with the Angels and has struggled in that time. Most recently, he hit .236 with two home runs and two stolen bases alongside a .679 OPS across 43 games in the 2023 season. His fantasy value is at an all-time low and he should be left alone in all formats.

Wed Mar 612:53Anthony Rendon Working Out Wednesday
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (groin) is going through a regular workout in camp on Wednesday. Rendon was shut down in spring training for a few days after having some groin discomfort on Sunday. It looks like the issue isn't too serious, though, so the 33-year-old veteran could return to Cactus League action by the weekend if he continues to progress. Still, it's been one injury after another since Rendon signed a seven-year deal with the Angels before the 2020 season. In his four years in Anaheim, he's played in only 200 games and has hit .249/.359/.399 with 22 homers and 111 RBI in 857 trips to the plate. His extensive injury history, combined with his decline in power production (most likely due to injuries), makes him hard to trust in mixed fantasy leagues at this point.

Tue Mar 518:47Anthony Rendon Dealing With Groin Discomfort
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (groin) has been dealing with some groin discomfort since Sunday, which is why he hasn't played in the Cactus League in a couple of days. Manager Ron Washington said he isn't concerned with the injury, though, and the hope is that Rendon is back in the lineup on Thursday. However, the Angels won't throw the injury-prone third baseman back out there until the pain is gone. The 33-year-old should hit in the middle of LA's batting order in 2024 and serve more as the designated hitter with Shohei Ohtani now gone, but how many games can fantasy managers really expect Rendon to play in? He's played in just 148 total games in the last three seasons combined. He still has great plate discipline, but Rendon has become untrustworthy in standard-sized fantasy leagues.

Sat Sep 23 202313:10Anthony Rendon Officially Done For The Season
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (leg) will not return this season, according to manager Phil Nevin. The veteran third baseman has been doing baseball activities and receiving treatment at Angel Stadium but with the regular season due to end in less than 10 days, there's not enough time for him to make it back. Rendon is dealing with a fractured tibia in his right leg and should be ready to go for the start of the 2024 season. This wraps up another disappointing season for the 33-year-old in an Angels uniform. He finishes 2023 with a .240/.365/.322 triple-slash line, two home runs, 22 RBI, and two stolen bases over 146 at-bats. He's played in just 199 games out of a possible 648 over the last four years in Los Angeles.

Fri Sep 15 202321:32Anthony Rendon Has Fractured Tibia
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (shin) relayed he has had a fractured tibia since he first got injured. Rendon found out weeks ago and said he isn't sure why the Angels didn't announce it. Either way, Rendon hasn't been a good fantasy asset for a couple of years and may not make it back by the end of this year. He hit .236 with a .318 slugging percentage through 43 games before the injury.

Sun Sep 10 202310:31Anthony Rendon Does Light Running This Weekend
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (shin) got in some light jogging before Friday's game versus the Cleveland Guardians. The 33-year-old resumed baseball activity earlier this week and took another step forward in his recovery from a left shin contusion. Rendon hit the injured list on July 14 and was eligible for activation on Saturday, but his return is obviously not imminent. The former All-Star has three weeks left to ramp things up for a 2023 return in another lost season for both Rendon and the Angels. Redraft fantasy managers should probably have let go for a stronger stash already. Veterans Mike Moustakas and Eduardo Escobar remain positioned to close the year in a timeshare at the hot corner.

Fri Aug 18 202319:29Anthony Rendon Moved To 60-Day Injured List
The Los Angeles Angels transferred infielder Anthony Rendon (shin) to the 60-day injured list on Friday amid a flurry of roster moves. The move means that Rendon won't be able to return to the team until Sept. 9, at the earliest, after suffering a deep bone bruise on his left shin in early July when he fouled a ball off his leg. The Angels were planning to shut down the 33-year-old from baseball activities for a couple of weeks, and now he'll have a bit longer to heal up before possibly returning. Rendon has been a massive disappointment since coming to Anaheim in 2020, as he has a combined 22 home runs in just 200 games after hitting a career-high 34 homers in his final season with the Washington Nationals in 2019. Until he returns, Mike Moustakas and Eduardo Escobar will continue sharing playing time at the hot corner.

Sat Jul 22 202318:29Anthony Rendon To Miss Another Two Weeks
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (shin) won't be back on the field anytime soon. He was recently placed on the injured list after fouling a ball off his shin earlier this month. The team said they have found internal bleeding around the bone bruise on his shin. That being said, the Angels plan to shut down Rendon for the next two weeks. The expectation is that the 33-year-old won't return until at least mid-August. Fantasy managers are beginning to lose hope that Rendon will contribute again before the end of the season.

Fri Jul 14 202318:12Anthony Rendon, Jo Adell Placed On Injured List
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (shin) and outfielder Jo Adell (oblique) have been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 11. Rendon has been sidelined since July 4 due to a bruised right shin. The organization was hopeful he'd be ready after the All-Star break, but sadly that wasn't the case. Luis Rengifo is handling third base in his absence on Friday. Adell suffered a left-oblique strain during Saturday's game and missed Sunday's game because of it. The team has not given a timetable for Adell's return to the field. In a corresponding move, outfielder/infielder Trey Cabbage has been recalled to the active roster. The Angels also outrighted infielder David Fletcher to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Sat Jul 8 202318:22Anthony Rendon Held Out On Saturday
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (shin) will remain out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Rendon fouled a ball off his shin on Tuesday and hasn't played since then. The Angels are likely just playing it safe and giving Rendon extra time to rest with the All-Star break about to begin. In the meantime, Eduardo Escobar will play third base and bat sixth versus left-hander Alex Vesia during Saturday's game.

Fri Jul 7 202319:02Anthony Rendon Remains Out Against Dodgers
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (shin) is missing from the team's starting lineup again on Friday for the series opener against the crosstown Los Angeles Dodgers. Mike Moustakas will make the start at the hot corner and bat sixth in the lineup against Dodgers right-hander Tony Gonsolin. Rendon fouled a ball off his left shin on the Fourth of July on Tuesday and hasn't played since, although he's expected to avoid the injured list and play at some point this weekend to close out the first half of the season. The 33-year-old can't seem to stay healthy with the Angels and continues to disappoint fantasy managers with a .236/.361/.318 slash line, only two home runs, six doubles, 22 RBI and 23 runs scored in 43 games (183 plate appearances).

Wed Jul 5 202319:18Anthony Rendon Absent On Wednesday
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (shin) is absent from Wednesday's starting lineup against the San Diego Padres. This doesn't come as a surprise after Rendon exited early during Tuesday's game. The right-handed slugger fouled a ball off his shin, but luckily the X-rays came back negative. The Angels didn't put Rendon on the injured list because they think he could return to action on Friday, according to manager Phil Nevin. Eduardo Escobar will play third base and bat second versus right-hander Seth Lugo on Wednesday. Fantasy managers should consider Rendon as day-to-day until the team gives a better update on his status.

Tue Jul 4 202321:07Anthony Rendon Leaves Mid-Game On Tuesday
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (shin) left Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres early after fouling a ball off his left shin. According to Sam Blum of The Athletic, the 33-year-old underwent X-rays which came back negative. Rendon has dealt with the injury bug a couple of times already this season and has only played in 42 games. He's slashing .236/.361/.318 with just two homers, 23 runs, 22 RBI, and two steals in another disappointing season with the Angels. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for more updates.

Fri Jun 30 202321:03Anthony Rendon Activated And Starting Friday
The Los Angeles Angels activated third baseman Anthony Rendon (wrist) from the 10-day injured list on Friday, and he is right back in the lineup at third base and batting cleanup against left-hander Tommy Henry and the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. Rendon will be returning from a left-wrist contusion, but fantasy managers may want to continue to stay away from him. The 33-year-old is hitting just .248 (33-for-133) with a homer, 21 RBI, two stolen bases and 22 runs scored in 38 games this year. He also has only two base hits (both doubles) in 30 at-bats in the month of June with one RBI, two walks and seven strikeouts in eight games played. The Angels really need Rendon to get going if they are going to make a postseason appearance in 2023.

Tue Jun 27 202309:48Anthony Rendon Begins On-Field Workouts
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (wrist) began on-field workouts on Monday, according to MLB.com. The 33-year-old veteran suffered a left wrist contusion on June 15 before hitting the injured list on June 19. There's still no timetable for Rendon's return, but manager Phil Nevin is still hopeful it'll be a quick stint. The former MVP candidate has slashed .248/.366/.316 this season with one bomb, 22 runs, 21 RBI, and two steals over 38 games. Fantasy managers have to be disappointed with his power production, but there's still a chance Rendon can provide a solid batting average, considering he's striking out just 13.4% of the time.

Mon Jun 19 202314:04Angels Put Anthony Rendon On 10-Day Injured List
The Los Angeles Angels placed third baseman Anthony Rendon (wrist) on the 10-day injured list on Monday with a left-wrist contusion. Rendon was originally hit by a pitch on his left wrist last Thursday against the Texas Rangers, and he ended up missing the entire three-game series against the Kansas City Royals over the weekend. Hopefully, he'll be able to return when first eligible on June 26. The 33-year-old veteran continues to struggle in LA, as he's hitting a disappointing .248 (33-for-133) with six doubles, one home run, 21 RBI and 22 runs scored in 164 plate appearances and 38 games so far in 2023. Luis Rengifo, who started the last three games at the hot corner with Rendon out, is likely to see most of the playing time at third base until Rendon returns.

Sat Jun 17 202317:13Anthony Rendon Targeting Return For Tuesday
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (wrist) exited early on Thursday after being hit in the wrist by a pitch. Luckily, the tests came back negative, so Rendon isn't dealing with a serious injury. However, the Angels are going to hold him out for a few games. Manager Phil Nevin said that Rendon is targeting a return for Tuesday. Fantasy managers shouldn't pencil him in yet for Tuesday, but it sounds like Rendon will avoid the injured list. Luis Rengifo is expected to continue playing third base in his absence.

Fri Jun 16 202317:30Anthony Rendon Not In Friday's Lineup
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon (wrist) is not in the team's starting lineup on Friday against the Kansas City Royals. It shouldn't come as a big surprise after Rendon left Thursday's game early against the Texas Rangers after being hit in the wrist by a pitch. The good news is that tests came back negative for broken bones, so fantasy managers should consider the 33-year-old day-to-day. Rendon continues to be a disappointment offensively in his time with the Angels, as he's currently hitting .248 (33-for-133) with six doubles, a home runs, 21 RBI and 22 runs scored in 38 games played. Luis Rengifo will take over for Rendon at third base on Friday, and he's hitting eighth in the order against Royals right-hander Brady Singer.
