Fife was recalled Tuesday and placed on the 60-day DL, SB Nation's Eric Stephen reports.
He will get 13 days of major league pay and service time after undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery, and won't occupy a 40-man spot because of the 60-day DL designation. He will likely miss much of the 2015 season as well while he rehabs from the surgery.

Fife (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Wednesday.
Fife, who hoped to see his forearm tightness and elbow issues subside while on the DL, will bite the bullet and undergo Tommy John surgery to repair ulnar collateral ligament damage. The 27-year-old will likely miss most, if not all, of next season. He started one game for the Dodgers in 2014, allowing seven hits and four runs in 6.0 innings. At Triple-A Albuquerque, Fife posted a 6.34 ERA across 49.2 total innings.

Thu Sep 19 201301:45Fife allows four runs in only 2 1/3 frames
Stephen Fife was rocked for four runs on six hits over just 2 1/3 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
Fife was making his 10th spot start. He may have ensured that it will be his last. The right-hander from Boise has a decent 3.86 ERA in 58 1/3 innings, but his good fortune in achieving that number becomes apparent when considering Fife's 1.53 WHIP and 45/20 K/BB ratio. Fife has coughed up 11 earned runs in 7 1/3 innings since the Dodgers recalled him from the minors earlier this month.

Stephen Fife will be placed on the disabled list with right shoulder bursitis.

Sat Jul 6 201322:27Fife allows four runs in Dodgers' loss to SF
Stephen Fife allowed four runs -- one earned -- over 4 1/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Giants.
Fife was left out to dry by his defense, though the seven hits that he allowed obviously didn't help matters. The 26-year-old right-hander has a cool 2.76 ERA in 45 2/3 innings (eight starts) this season, but he's probably going to lose his rotation spot to Ricky Nolasco. Chris Capuano is the other candidate to get the boot.

Stephen Fife held the Padres to two runs -- one earned -- over six innings in a no-decision.
Fife struck out six and walked one, scattering four hits. The 26-year-old has been great since he was recalled from the minors earlier this month, allowing just four runs over four starts and 23 innings. Unfortunately, Fife is allowing a bonanza of baserunners and we don't expect him to continue dancing out of danger.

Stephen Fife pitched decently in Friday's loss to the Pirates, surrendering two runs on six hits and three walks over his five innings.
Fife punched out four on the night. While there were a steady stream of baserunners against him, the only damage came on a two-run double from Andrew McCutchen in the third inning. He's done a nice job in limited work this season, posting a 3.74 ERA and 21/7 K/BB ratio through his first 21 2/3 innings. He represents a nice streaming option when he takes on the Padres in San Diego on Thursday.
