Wed Dec 18 201310:20Phillies boot C Valle from 40-man roster
Phillies designated C Sebastian Valle for assignment.
The 23-year-old's bat hasn't yet acclimated to the high minors, but it wouldn't be a shock if Philadelphia some day regrets letting Valle walk for free. The Mexican catcher was considered the team's best position player prospect just two years ago. Valle has been swinging a decent stick in the Mexican League this winter and has experimented with playing the outfield. Because catching is so sparse around the league, there's a chance another franchise could take a shot on him through the waivers process.

Phillies prospect catcher Sebastian Valle suffered a small fracture on his right ring finger.
The injury didn't stop Valle from participating in drills Tuesday, so it doesn't sound like a major concern. The 22-year-old batted .253/.271/.428 with 17 home runs and a .699 OPS between Double- and Triple-A last season and was ranked as the organization's No. 14 prospect by Baseball America over the winter.
