Mets claimed RHP Chris Schwinden off waivers from the Yankees.
Schwinden has now gone from the Mets to the Blue Jays to the Indians to the Yankees and back to the Mets over the last month. He'll represent rotation depth at Triple-A but is probably best suited for a long relief role over the long haul.

He was cleared to make room for Vinny Rottino on the active roster. Schwinden was recently claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays and posted a 5.87 ERA over three starts with Triple-A Columbus. Perhaps the pitching-hungry Blue Jays will try to get him back in the fold.

We hope Schwinden didn't unpack his bags. The Blue Jays just claimed the 25-year-old right-hander off waivers from the Mets on Saturday, but now he's headed to his third organization in less than one week.

Mets placed RHP Chris Schwinden on waivers.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Elvin Ramirez, who will be added to the team Friday. Schwinden has posted an ugly 12.46 ERA and 2.08 WHIP over 8 2/3 innings this season for the Mets. He stands a good chance of clearing waivers and being outrighted to Triple-A.

Mon May 28 201217:52Mets recalling RHP Schwinden from Triple-A
The Mets will recall right-hander Chris Schwinden from Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.
No word yet on the corresponding roster move, but logic dictates the the struggling Manny Acosta will get the boot. Schwinden has allowed 13 hits and 11 runs in eight innings this season for the Mets and figures to pitch in long relief.

Wed May 2 201217:02Chris Schwinden roughed up by Astros
Chris Schwinden was tagged for five runs in four innings by the Astros in a loss Wednesday.
Jeremy Hefner would have been the better choice to move into the Mets rotation in Mike Pelfrey's place, and he'll probably get his opportunity if Schwinden turns in another bad outing next time out. Schwinder has an 11.25 ERA after two turns.

Thu Apr 26 201217:26Mets to recall Schwinden for Friday start
The Mets will recall right-hander Chris Schwinden from Triple-A Buffalo to start Friday against the Rockies on Friday.
Schwinden will take the rotation spot of Mike Pelfrey, who has a partially torn UCL in his right elbow and is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 2.05 ERA and 13/9 K/BB ratio in 22 innings at the Triple-A level this year, but fantasy owners are advised to look elsewhere.

Tue Apr 24 201216:32Schwinden likely to fill in for Pelfrey
ESPN New York's Adam Rubin suspects that Chris Schwinden will be called up for a spot start Friday.
The Mets need a temporary fill-in for stater Mike Pelfrey, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with elbow soreness. Schwinden has registered a 2.05 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 22 innings this year at Triple-A. But he should probably be ignored for fantasy purposes Friday night at Coors Field.

Fri Mar 30 201213:02Chris Schwinden optioned
Mets optioned RHP Chris Schwinden to Triple-A Buffalo.
So much for the rumor about the Mets possible dumping Mike Pelfrey and inserting Schwinden into their rotation. The right-hander posted a 5.19 ERA and 3/4 K/BB ratio in 8 2/3 innings this spring. He'll likely be the first one summoned from the minors if a starter is needed.

Tue Mar 27 201216:32Chris Schwinden gives up four runs to Braves
Chris Schwinden gave up four runs in 2 1/3 innings Tuesday in his start against the Braves.
Schwinden and Jeremy Hefner are the Mets' primary rotation fallbacks right now. Schwinden would probably get the call if a starter went down prior to Opening Day, though his 5.19 ERA and 3/4 K/BB ratio in 8 2/3 innings this spring aren't very impressive. Hefner has been used strictly as a reliever thus far.

Wed Sep 21 201122:53Schwinden quality in no-decision
Chris Schwinden allowed three runs on six hits and two walks in six innings on Wednesday, taking a no-decision in New York's 6-5 loss to the Cardinals.
Schwinden allowed all three of his runs in the first two innings, settling down to record five strikeouts in a quality start. Not a high-end prospect, Schwinden's odds of cracking the Mets rotation next spring will be low.

Thu Sep 15 201117:26Chris Schwinden loses for Mets
Chris Schwinden yielded two runs -- one earned -- in five innings Thursday in a loss to the Nationals.
Schwinden was a lot more effective today than in his debut last week, but the end result was the same. He's not worth playing in NL-only leagues.

Wed Sep 14 201119:18Chris Schwinden to remain in rotation
Mets manager Terry Collins said Chris Schwinden will remain in the rotation for the rest of the season.
Schwinden is starting Thursday, taking Miguel Batista's spot in the rotation. The soon-to-be 25-year-old should have a chance to compete for a spot in next year's rotation, so it couldn't hurt to give him a look now. Schwinden struggled in his first major league start last week but posted a 3.95 ERA and 134/48 K/BB ratio over 26 starts with Triple-A Buffalo this season.

Tue Sep 13 201117:33Schwinden to start Thursday vs. Nationals
Chris Schwinden will start Thursday's series finale against the Nationals.
Chris Capuano was originally scheduled to start Thursday's game, but he will simply be pushed back one day. Schwinden will take the place of Miguel Batista in the starting rotation, at least for one start. The 24-year-old right-hander gave up up five runs in five innings last Thursday in his major league debut against the Braves, so he can be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Mon Sep 12 201121:09Collins: Schwinden could get one more start
Mets manager Terry Collins said the team might give one of Miguel Batista's remaining starts to Chris Schwinden.
Collins indicated over the weekend that the rookie right-hander would only be used as an emergency long-reliever for the remainder of the season because the skipper was concerned that Schwinden was running out of gas after throwing the most innings of his professional career this season. It looks like he's changed his mind. "We might make an adjustment there. I just want to probably let Chris Schwinden have some time to catch his breath a little bit," Collins said. "He's had a long season, but we ultimately have to take another look at him." Schwinden gave up five runs in five innings Thursday against the Braves in his first career start. Batista is 1-0 with a 3.71 ERA.
